Teaching Artists at Camp ¡Exprésate! lead creative, arts-based programming for elementary and middle school students through Mosaic Theatricals’ afterschool and seasonal programs. In this role, artists design and facilitate engaging workshops in theatre, movement, music, and storytelling while supporting students’ social-emotional growth, confidence, and sense of belonging. Teaching Artists collaborate closely with fellow educators to create a safe, inclusive, and joyful learning environment where young people are encouraged to express themselves and build essential life skills through the arts.

Mosaic Theatricals (formerly CCAE Theatricals) is a professional nonprofit theatre company based in North County San Diego, serving the region through three interconnected pillars: Professional Theatre, Workforce Development, and Creative Youth Development. Through programs such as the Dorris Staples Theatrical Conservatory, PlayDate TYA Series, and Camp ¡Exprésate!, Mosaic invests in young people as artists, leaders, and collaborators while producing high-quality professional work for the community.

Program
Camp ¡Exprésate! is Mosaic’s signature Creative Youth Development program, serving elementary and middle school students through after-school, school break, and summer programming. Rooted in arts education, social-emotional learning, and culturally responsive pedagogy, Camp ¡Exprésate! empowers youth to build confidence, express their identities, and develop critical life skills through theatre, music, movement, storytelling, and collaborative creation.

Position Summary
Mosaic Theatricals seeks dynamic, compassionate, and skilled Teaching Artists to join our Camp ¡Exprésate! team. Teaching Artists lead daily arts-based instruction and collaborate with fellow educators to create a safe, inclusive, and joyful learning environment where every student is seen, valued, and supported.

We are currently hiring Teaching Artists for our Spring Afterschool Program and are also building a general pool of Teaching Artists for ongoing and future programming.

Approximately 2:30 PM – 4:30 PM

Primary Responsibilities

Program Instruction & Facilitation: Design and facilitate engaging, age-appropriate arts curriculum integrating theatre, movement, music, storytelling, and creative play

Program Instruction & Facilitation: Lead daily workshops and group activities that support social-emotional growth, collaboration, and confidence

Program Instruction & Facilitation: Adapt instruction to meet the diverse learning styles and needs of students

Program Instruction & Facilitation: Support youth in creating original performance work and culminating showcases

Student Support & Community Building: Cultivate a classroom culture grounded in respect, belonging, and positive behavior support

Student Support & Community Building: Build strong relationships with students, families, and program staff

Student Support & Community Building: Model professionalism, empathy, and inclusive leadership

Student Support & Community Building: Support conflict resolution and emotional regulation using trauma-informed practices

Collaboration & Program Operations: Collaborate with Site Leads, Teaching Artists, and Camp Counselors to ensure smooth daily operations

Collaboration & Program Operations: Participate in planning meetings, trainings, and professional development

Collaboration & Program Operations: Assist with setup, breakdown, attendance, and general program logistics

Collaboration & Program Operations: Communicate clearly and consistently with program leadership

Qualifications
Required

Experience working with children and/or youth in educational, arts, or community-based settings

Strong facilitation and classroom management skills

Background in theatre, music, dance, creative writing, or interdisciplinary arts

Commitment to equity, inclusion, and youth-centered learning

Ability to work collaboratively within a team-based environment

Reliability, flexibility, and strong communication skills

Preferred

Bilingual in Spanish and English

Experience in Creative Youth Development, social-emotional learning, or trauma-informed education

Teaching credential, arts education degree, or equivalent professional experience

Compensation
$40–$50 per hour, commensurate with skills and experience

Paid training and professional development provided

Teaching Artists work on-site at partner schools and community centers across Escondido. This role requires standing, movement, and active engagement with youth throughout the program day.
