The Marketing Measurement & Performance Support (MAPS) organization is seeking a Science Manager to lead a team of Economists, Data Scientists and Applied Scientists in designing a measurement system to address challenging marketing measurement problems. This leader will develop solutions combining experimental evidence, observational models and decision frameworks to redefine brand marketing measurement. MAPS aims to be the trusted source of measurement science solutions to drive marketing investment decisions across Amazon, providing incrementality and efficiency measurement services and decision support to marketing stakeholders across Amazon’s Stores businesses. MAPS applies causal inference models and designs experiments to measure omni-channel effectiveness of marketing campaigns globally. Outputs influence product and marketing teams’ decisions and how customers experience Amazon. As a Science Manager, you will lead scientists to develop state-of-the-art models and collaborate with other scientists, businesses, marketers and software teams to solve key challenges such as measuring incremental impact of multi-channel marketing portfolios, estimating long-term customer actions, and scaling measurement solutions for worldwide marketplaces. MAPS is responsible for designing and building systems to serve Amazon’s businesses, offering members opportunities to work on leading-edge marketing measurement problems with product managers, scientists, economists and software developers.

Responsibilities

Be a people manager and technical leader in econometric research with significant scope, impact, and visibility.

Own the development of the next generation of Causal Marketing-Mix-Media (MMM) models that combine experimental evidence with observational econometric techniques.

Deliver accurate and actionable incrementality estimates and optimization recommendations to business leaders for portfolio decisions.

Navigate ambiguity, lead problem solving, and guide the development of new frameworks.

Interface credibly between technical teams and business stakeholders.

Coach and guide scientists across Economists, Data Scientists and Applied Scientists to grow the team’s talent and scale impact.

Basic Qualifications

PhD in economics or equivalent.

Experience distilling informal customer requirements into problem definitions, dealing with ambiguity and competing objectives.

Experience hiring and leading experienced scientists and developing junior members from academia or industry to a successful career track.

5+ years of experience building large-scale Causal Inference and AI solutions.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in applied economic analysis and with big data and machine learning or data science.

Experience building and growing teams of economists or machine learning scientists.

5+ years of people management experience.

Experience with big data technologies such as AWS, Hadoop, Spark, Pig, Hive, etc.

Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Java, or R).

5+ years of applied economics or statistics experience.

Compensation and Benefits
The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
