Audio Technician

Location
Currently Washington, DC (On‑Site). Will move to Alexandria, VA. Flexibility in working hours, including occasional evenings and weekends as needed.

Summary
The Audio Technician will set up, operate, and maintain audio equipment to ensure high‑quality sound for music, voiceovers, podcasts, and live broadcasts. Key duties include troubleshooting, inventory management, collaboration with producers and clients, and compliance with safety and copyright regulations.

Responsibilities

Recording and Production

Set up and operate audio equipment, including microphones, mixing consoles, signal processors, and recording software.

Record music, voiceovers, podcasts, and broadcasts.

Ensure high‑quality sound by monitoring levels, adjusting EQ, and managing signal flow.

Collaborate with producers and directors to achieve desired sound and mood.

Equipment Management

Maintain and troubleshoot audio equipment.

Manage inventory of equipment and software, recommend upgrades.

Assist setup and breakdown for live events and broadcasts.

Collaboration and Communication

Work with team members to align audio with project vision.

Provide creative input during production meetings.

Communicate with clients to understand audio needs and deliver results.

Technical Support and Speaker Setup

Provide technical support during recording, live events, and broadcasts.

Troubleshoot and resolve audio issues.

Set up and optimize speaker systems for clear sound coverage.

Reporting

Prepare weekly and monthly reports on tasks, projects, equipment status, and issues.

Provide insights and recommendations for process improvements.

Compliance and Safety

Adhere to safety protocols for handling equipment.

Ensure compliance with copyright laws and licensing requirements.

Qualifications

Experience : 3+ years in a professional recording studio or broadcast environment.

Technical Skills

Strong understanding of signal flow, routing, and patching.

Knowledge of audio processing tools (EQ, compression, reverb, etc.).

Familiarity with microphone types, placement techniques, and recording environments.

Soft Skills

Excellent problem‑solving and troubleshooting abilities.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Attention to detail and commitment to quality.

Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

Work Environment

Fast‑paced studio with tight deadlines.

Flexible to work irregular hours, including nights and weekends as needed.

Physical Requirements

Lifting and moving audio equipment as needed.

Capability to sit or stand for extended periods during sessions.
