Summary
The Staff Engineer, Hardware Design works with cross‑functional teams, other designers, customers, manufacturing engineering and project leadership to ensure robust and high‑quality product development. Enhance designs with feedback from reviews in areas such as manufacturing, test, supply chain, reliability, industrial design and simulations. Provide support throughout the manufacturing process of the electrical/mechanical system that they have designed.
The Staff Engineer, Hardware Design (Electrical) develops new electrical systems/circuits for various applications. Research system ideas and draw up plans for these systems, and capture them in schematics and system specifications. Test, simulate, validate and qualify their systems and make adjustments as needed.
Detailed Description
Lead the design, development and implementation of technical solutions for complex projects, involving multiple domains. Participate in project planning and scheduling.
Provide technical leadership and direction to a sizable team of engineers. May be a recognized expert (go‑to person) in one or more technical areas.
Take responsibility for non‑technical elements of an engineering project (people, financials, etc.).
Review and interpret customer requirements/specifications and may act as primary customer contract.
Analyze trade‑offs in complex systems and recommend solutions. Develop deployment strategies and plans.
Lead the deployment of strategic complex programs and coordinate site‑wide deployment efforts.
May manage relationships with key vendors/partners.
Research systems ideas and draw up plans for these systems.
Design, modify and implement systems that meet customer and Celestica needs.
Create designs in line with Celestica's procedures, regulations and customer standards.
Keep up to date with relevant industry knowledge and regulations.
Solve complex problems.
Liaison with suppliers, customers, contractors, and other internal teams.
Recommend system modifications.
Creation of schematics, bills of material, diagrams, drawings, etc.
Analyzing and interpreting data and information.
Creating reports and documentation.
Technical Capabilities
Strong engineering design experience in the field of compute, storage or network products required.
Knowledge of AI products, GPU servers is a strong plus.
Experience with high speed OSFP/QSFP networking design equipment and testing is a plus.
Experience in very high speed digital hardware design and development and understanding of complex concepts related to architecture, design engineering, reliability, prototyping and failure analysis required. Design experience with DDR5, 100GbE or faster Ethernet, PCIe Gen5 or above, 56G SERDES, or similar interfaces is a plus.
Strong organizational, planning and program management skills required.
Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment to meet aggressive goals and high quality standards required.
Excellent multi‑tasking and problem‑solving skills desired.
Strong oral and written communication skills required.
International culture awareness, ability to communicate and collaborate within global teams desired.
Physical Demands
Duties of this position are performed in a normal office environment.
Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data.
Repetitive manual movements (e.g., data entry, using a computer mouse, using a calculator, etc.) are frequently required.
Occasional travel may be required.
Typical Experience
8+ years of related experience; experience in similar job roles.
Typical Education
Bachelor degree or consideration of an equivalent combination of education and experience.
