3D Interior Design / Architectural Drafting Internship Sioux Falls Home Remodeling is a locally owned and operated remodeling company serving the greater Sioux Falls area. About the Internship We are seeking a motivated student to join our remodeling team as an Interior Design / Architectural Drafting Intern. This internship offers hands-on experience in residential remodeling design, providing the opportunity to develop real-world skills in CAD software, 3D rendering, and client interaction. You'll work directly with our lead remodeler, learning how to transform client visions into professional designs that guide actual construction projects.
This is an excellent opportunity for students pursuing degrees in interior design, architecture, construction management, or related fields to gain practical experience on real residential remodeling projects, including kitchen and bathroom remodels, home additions, and basement finishing.
Learn to create detailed architectural drawings, plans, and layouts for residential remodeling projects using Chief Architect software
Shadow our lead remodeler during client consultations and job site visits to learn measurement techniques and client communication skills
Gain proficiency in drafting floor plans, elevations, sections, and construction drawings
Develop skills in creating 3D renderings and virtual walkthroughs for client presentations
Assist with material selections and learn about design options commonly used in remodeling
Understand how to prepare project documentation, including technical drawings and specifications
Learn about building codes, regulations, and industry standards
Practice making revisions based on feedback from project managers and clients
Develop organizational skills through project file management
Gain exposure to coordination between designers, contractors, and other stakeholders
Qualifications Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a program in Interior Design, Architecture, Construction Management, or a related field
Basic familiarity with CAD software (Chief Architect, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Revit, or similar) - willingness to learn Chief Architect is essential
Interest in 3D rendering and visualization
Strong attention to detail and eagerness to learn
Good communication skills and professional demeanor
Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively
Reliable and self-motivated
Interest in residential construction and remodeling
Additional Requirements Must have reliable transportation for travel to job sites in the Sioux Falls area
Must have access to a computer capable of running required design software (we can discuss software access options)
Compensation: Paid internship, rate based on experience and skill level
Schedule: Flexible part-time hours during the academic year (10-20 hours/week) or full-time during summer breaks (30-40 hours/week)
Duration: Semester-based or summer internship, with possibility of extension or future employment
This internship can fulfill academic internship requirements - we're happy to work with your college or university
