Job Summary
This is a full-time, academic year, faculty term appointment within the Department of Communications, Graphic and Fine Arts. The faculty member is responsible for coordinating, planning, preparing (developing curricula and instructional material; preparing course syllabi), presenting, and evaluating classroom instruction and related activities. The faculty member also performs assigned duties during the day, evening, or weekend on any Southwest Tennessee Community College campus as assigned. At a minimum, related activities include instruction, instructional counseling, academic advising, serving on various committees, and participating in local, state, regional, and national professional activities and organizations.
Job Duties
- Prepare and deliver lectures.
- Compile, administer, evaluate, and grade students’ class work, laboratory work, assignments, tests, and papers fairly and consistently; keep students informed about their progress through prompt grading.
- Teach Communication courses in face‑to‑face, online, and hybrid formats, as assigned, using the institution’s learning management system and instructional technologies.
- Maintain office hours for students seeking advice on class work, assignments, papers, and other matters.
- Advise and counsel students in academic and career fields.
- Participate in departmental and college committees; provide outreach service to the community.
- Attend all faculty meetings, college assemblies, professional development, orientation activities, and other meetings called by the President, Dean or Department Chair.
- Keep abreast of developments in the field by reading current literature, discussing with colleagues, and attending professional conferences.
- Maintain accurate student attendance records, grades, and other required records.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Department Head/Dean.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Speech, Oratory/Rhetoric, or Communication or 18 graduate semester hours in Speech, Oratory/Rhetoric, Communication, or Speech‑related Theatre courses plus a Master’s degree in any discipline.
- Minimum two (2) years of teaching experience in higher education, or one (1) year of teaching experience in higher education and three (3) years of employment in the field; two (2) years of teaching, or equivalent, at a higher education institution preferred.
- Background check required for the successful candidate.
