Job Summary
The Physician Communication Coordinator I monitors all incoming and outgoing UT Southwestern hospital and clinic telecommunications activities regarding campus wide communication efforts. First responder to Safety, life support and critical operational systems including: security assistance and emergency response situations. Responsible for the knowledge and ability to react instantaneously to all emergencies. Acts as a dispatcher for Safety/Security and Facilities. Responsible for paging throughout the facility, including all notification devices, manual paging, and paging through computer messaging system for physicians and staff. Also, provides after hours answering service for all UTSW clinics including documenting telephone encounters in EPIC and paging appropriate on calls. Maintains appropriate logs and records in accordance with established policies and high standards of customer service.

High School Diploma or GED
1 year of customer service experience
Preferred
Minimum typing/keyboarding speed of 35 WPM
1 year of clerical/administrative experience and experience in a healthcare environment
Proficiency in one or more languages in addition to English
Job Duties
Responsible for calls received at the switchboard, routing callers to the appropriate person/department/patient room.
Responsible for paging throughout the facility, including mobile devices, manual paging, and paging through computer messaging system for physicians and staff.
Provides checkout, pager reassignments, and places long distance calls for physicians.
Provides after hours answering service for all UTSW clinics, documenting telephone encounters in EPIC and paging appropriate "on calls".
Prescreens potential tissue donors for Transplant Services by entering in national database.
Provides campus information, including mailing addresses, directions, and visiting hours to callers.
Maintains appropriate logs and records in accordance with established policies.
Provides access to telephonic interpreter services for callers with limited English proficiency.
Provides support for the emergency patient code alert operation.
Performs other duties as assigned.
