Position DescriptionProgram: Community Action Program Syringe Services Program (SSP)Organization: Southern Illinois Resource and Advocacy Center (SIRAC)Primary Location: Marion, ILEmployment Type: PartTime (approximately 24-29 hours per week)Compensation: $16.00-$17.00 per hourPosition SummaryThe Harm Reduction Delivery Driver provides mobile, communitybased delivery of harm reduction supplies to SSP participants. Services are voluntary, confidential, and participantdriven. This role operates a SIRACprovided vehicle and works under Illinoisapproved SSP protocols to deliver supplies safely and respectfully while supporting participant autonomy, dignity, and health.Peers and individuals with lived experience of substance use, recovery, homelessness, or system involvement are strongly encouraged to apply.Key ResponsibilitiesDeliver harm reduction supplies to enrolled SSP participants in community settings, including:Sterile injection supplies and disposal containersNaloxone and overdose prevention materialsSafer use, safer smoking, and wound care suppliesEducational materials and referralsProvide delivery services in a noncoercive, voluntary, and participantcentered mannerMaintain confidentiality and protect participant privacy in accordance with Illinois SSP requirementsTransport, distribute, and store supplies safely and in compliance with program protocolsMaintain accurate, deidentified documentation as required for SSP reporting and grant complianceUse a traumainformed, harmreduction approach in all participant interactionsShare basic harm reduction education and resource information when requested or appropriateCommunicate participant needs, safety concerns, or supply issues to program staffEnsure safe operation of a SIRACprovided vehicle, including:Following all traffic laws and organizational safety policiesConducting routine vehicle checks and reporting maintenance needs promptlyWork independently in the field while staying connected to the broader program teamQualificationsHigh school diploma, GED, or equivalent life experienceValid Illinois drivers license with a clean driving recordAbility to meet organizational insurance requirements for operating a company vehicleLived experience with substance use, recovery, harm reduction, homelessness, or related systems strongly preferredExperience in peer support, outreach, harm reduction, or communitybased services preferredKnowledge of rural community challenges and access barriers a plusWillingness to learn and follow Illinois SSP protocols and harm reduction best practicesRequirements & Core CompetenciesReliability, punctuality, and strong time managementAbility to work independently and make sound, safetyfocused decisionsRespectful, nonjudgmental communication skillsCommitment to harm reduction, participant autonomy, and dignityAbility to maintain confidentiality and professional boundariesBasic documentation and inventorytracking skillsComfort working with people who may be actively using substances or experiencing instabilityWork EnvironmentMobile, communitybased service deliveryFrequent local and regional drivingAfternoon, evening, and weekend work requiredVariable settings, including outdoor and nontraditional environmentsIndependent work with ongoing team support and supervisionCompensation & BenefitsCompetitive hourly wagesPaid holidaysSick leave & paid leaveFlex time opportunitiesEqual Opportunity StatementSIRAC is an Equal Opportunity Employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other protected characteristic under applicable law.
