
Summer Internship - Supply Chain Strategic Planner (Onsite / Des Plaines, IL)

Job Summary
This is a 10–12 week internship in the Supply Chain Strategic Planner role, located onsite in Des Plaines, IL, during May to August with a 40‑hour work week. The internship focuses on supporting continuous improvement, operational excellence, and digital transformation within Acuity Brands Lighting’s Distribution organization.
Key Responsibilities
Support continuous improvement and process optimization initiatives within distribution center operations
Assist with documenting current‑state processes, workflows, and standard work
Collect, analyze, and summarize operational data related to safety, quality, productivity, or sustainability efforts
Participate in Lean, Industry 4.0, and digital transformation initiatives through project‑based work
Support pilot projects involving new processes, equipment, or technology
Prepare presentations, reports, and visual materials to communicate analysis and findings
Collaborate with cross‑functional partners, including operations, engineering, and supply chain teams
Support additional tactical requests as needed
Minimum Requirements
Minimum education: Some college coursework; current pursuit of a bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Operations, Industrial Engineering, or a related field
Academic standing: Minimum GPA of 3.0
Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated analytical and problem‑solving capabilities
Strong time management and prioritization skills
Ability to work collaboratively in a team‑oriented environment
Relevant internship, coursework, or project experience in Lean, process improvement, or operations
Basic understanding of manufacturing or distribution environments
Familiarity with data analysis, process mapping, or visualization tools
Interest in technology‑enabled improvement (automation, digital tools, data)
Comfortable working in a fast‑paced, team‑oriented operational setting
Travel Requirements
Minimal travel required (0–10%), based on business needs.
Compensation & Benefits
The range for this position is $39,500.00 to $71,000.00. Acuity offers health care, dental coverage, vision plans, 401(k) benefits, and, for applicable roles, commissions or incentive compensation.
