The School of Engineering seeks a

Facility Manager

to manage a large, interdisciplinary facility with complex instrumentation and labs. The Facility Manager provides excellent customer service to building residents and works as part of a collaborative team of Facility managers, safety specialists, and project managers.

The Facility Manager will be responsible for buildings in the School of Engineering Quad (SEQ). These buildings include offices, research facilities, labs, maker spaces, and teaching spaces for undergraduate and graduate students. It is a hybrid position requiring a minimum of four days per week on the Stanford main campus.

Job Purpose:

Perform specialized work activities and coordinate solutions, supporting operations, maintenance, repair, upkeep, inventory tracking, and refurbishing activities related to a complex facility. The role is an individual contributor with responsibilities in maintenance, construction coordination, safety, property administration, security, communications, space management, and project oversight.

Serve as the point of contact for facilities maintenance, initiating work requests, monitoring completion, managing the maintenance and renovations budget, and coordinating routine service completion (trash, utilities, custodial, pest control, inspections, landscaping, alarms, systems & equipment). Suggest metrics, monitor trends, and report.

Perform condition assessments, analyze results, develop preventive maintenance plans, and coordinate utility usage optimization. Coordinate and approve third‑party vendor work, implement building operation and process modifications for productivity or cost reduction, and manage related budgets.

Handle property administration: troubleshoot, complete tagging, data entry, inventory, purchasing orders, receiving, and record keeping. Establish tracking systems and support space allocation decision makers.

Implement facility security programs: develop procedures, distribute keys, manage access records, assess security infrastructure needs, and adjust access schedules.

Coordinate project activities: perform assigned departmental tasks, act as project coordinator/liaison, and oversee small local projects (scheduling, budgeting, implementation).

Coordinate with safety specialists to correct safety issues, perform root‑cause analysis, manage chemical inventory and hazardous waste, develop safety training, and participate in emergency preparedness and continuity coordination.

Coordinate communications services, providing updates, alerts, and notifications to occupants (e.g., website, phone).

Coordinate space management and planning: analyze moves, coordinate relocations, manage space inventory and allocation, support capital planning, and implement organized renewals.

Oversee and supervise staff supporting the physical environment and building systems, as assigned.

Other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience (Required):

Bachelor’s degree and five years of related, technically focused facilities management experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (Required):

Analytical skills to track space, equipment, and financial data.

Interpersonal skills with mature judgment for interactions with faculty, vendors, and the public.

Ability to coordinate multiple projects with competing priorities and meet deadlines.

Working knowledge of Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Experience contracting with internal and external vendors and services.

Background knowledge of safe chemical handling, hazardous waste disposal, and emergency preparedness.

Familiarity with property administration principles and detailed PO, receiving, and inventory control.

Certifications and Licenses:

Valid California non‑commercial Class C Driver’s license.

Working Conditions:

24‑hour emergency response availability.

Exposure to noise > 80 dB.

Work at heights of 4–10 ft.

Physical Requirements:

Frequent standing/walking, sitting, desk‑based computer tasks.

Occasional climbing, twisting, bending, squatting, reaching, light fine manipulation, phone use, handwriting, lifting up to 20 lbs.

Rarely kneeling, crawling, grasping forcefully, sorting, or lifting >40 lbs.

Ability to drive day or night.

Pay Range:

$112,502 to $136,592 per annum.
