Quality Control Asphalt Mix Design Technician
Reports to the Quality Control Manager and works at asphalt plants to formulate and implement asphalt mix designs and job mix formulas.
Key Duties
Follow directions and instructions from the Quality Control Manager.
Conduct sampling and testing in accordance with applicable SCDOT, AASHTO, and ASTM standards.
Perform daily equipment verifications as instructed.
Assist or perform equipment calibrations as directed.
Test samples in accordance with specifications, QC Plan and quality management system requirements.
Care for and maintain all laboratory equipment and inventory.
Keep the laboratory neat, clean, and orderly.
Accurately report test results on proper forms.
Complete all documentation used to report test results (e.g., worksheets, sample and test logs, certificate of analysis).
Dispose of waste material upon completion of testing.
Assist plant personnel during batch production to insure product quality control objectives are met (process control testing).
Communicate batch test results and certifications to plant personnel.
Assist the Quality Control Manager in meeting compliance reporting deadlines outlined in QC plans and quality management system.
Assist other technicians and employees as needed.
Attend and complete training as required (company, certification, etc.).
Perform other activities assigned by the Quality Control Manager.

Education and Experience
SCDOT HMA Level 2 Job Mix Technician certification.
Working proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
Familiarity with SCDOT, AASHTO, and ASTM specifications for asphalt emulsions, asphalt materials and testing.
Possess a working understanding of statistical process control.
Adherence to ethical professional and behavioral standards.
Physical Demands
Constant physical effort, including standing, during an eight-hour shift.
Frequently walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions.
Work Environment
Work is performed predominantly indoors.
Work environment periodically exposes employees to high levels of noise, grease, and dust typical of a construction project.
