General Summary
The Bayhealth Community Pharmacy Manager oversees the daily operations of the outpatient pharmacies of the health system, focusing on prescription accuracy, inventory and financial management, staff supervision (including the Kent and Sussex outpatient pharmacists-in-charge). The Community Pharmacy Manager drives patient-focused services, manages financial performance, collaborates with providers to ensure seamless care transitions, and ensures compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.

Responsibilities

Operational Leadership: a. Manage daily, fast-paced workflows to ensure efficient prescription dispensing and high-quality patient service.

Team Management: a. Recruit, train, schedule, and evaluate pharmacists, technicians, and support staff.

Regulatory Compliance: a. Ensure strict adherence to state, federal pharmacy, and Drug Enforcement Administration regulations.

Productivity Management: a. Staffs team appropriately to volume and ensure minimization of overtime including staffing and performing the duties of an outpatient pharmacist 20 to 30% of the time.

Financial Performance: a. Monitor the department’s budget, cash receipts, and third-party reimbursements. b. Manage the budget and financial performance of the pharmacy, including controlling inventory stock levels and inventory turns to prevent shortages and waste, monitoring expenses, and sourcing inventory from vendors with preferable prices to maximize margin. c. Conduct monthly review of negative margin pharmacy to: i. Identify payors and the National Drug Codes (NDC) that significantly contribute to the negative margin. ii. Design strategies to improve margin (aligning NDC selection to reimbursement strategies, performing Pharmacy Services Administrative Organizations (PSAO) appeals for consistent undercost payor reimbursements, etc.). d. Adjudicate anticipated monthly revenue via payment claims reconciliation portal for uncollected and unreconciled payments.

Clinical Collaboration: a. Partner with hospital providers to optimize medication therapy, provide medication counseling, and enhance the patient experience.

Required Education, Credential(s) and Experience

Education: Bachelor Degree Pharmacy

Credential(s): Licensed Pharmacist

Experience: Required: 3 years of experience in a retail/ outpatient pharmacy, including administrative/ management and business experience

Preferred Education, Credential(s) and Experience

Education: Master Degree Pharmacy, Master Degree Doctor of Medicine or Business Administration & Health Administration

Credential(s):

Experience: Preferred: 5 or more years of experience in a retail/ outpatient pharmacy, including administrative/ management experience and business experience
