Avionics Design Engineer

To help achieve these efforts, Stratolaunch is seeking an Electrical, Avionics Drafter (Level I, II, or Sr) to support design, integration, testing, and maintenance of one of our carrier or hypersonic vehicles electrical and avionics systems.

Job Responsibilities

Integrate avionics and electrical components into aircraft; gather requirements, generate wiring diagrams, support shop personnel performing the work, and test the completed systems.

Develop and maintain system and sub‑system drawing packages.

Define system architecture for avionics and electrical systems.

Develop engineering documentation including drawing trees, block diagrams, interface control documents (ICD), and wiring diagrams.

Define the bill of material (BOM) for electrical drawings.

Partner with harness engineers to determine harness routing requirements.

Define and update design rules and standards.

Incorporate redlines from the engineering design team and hanging redlines from completed manufacturing work.

Support design validation testing and resolve design‑related failures.

Utilize CAD, NX, CATIA, Mentor Graphics or other graphic tools.

Liaison engineering support in the electrical shop to provide technicians with sufficient support to complete the task.

Breakdown engineering released documentation to better understand the intent.

Redline released engineering drawing documentation.

Communicate with multidisciplinary teams involved in design, purchasing, manufacturing, integration, and testing.

Essential Responsibilities

Support avionics and electrical design effort.

Develop engineering documentation of avionics and electrical systems.

Provide shop support to complete modifications.

Develop test plans and procedures.

Maintain regular and comprehensive communication to leadership.

Contribute to the integration of complex aerospace systems.

Travel as needed to support the department.

Demonstrate honesty, responsibility, integrity and fulfillment of commitments.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:

Knowledge and experience in electrical engineering, avionics, experimental aircraft and/or launch vehicle integration.

Experience with aerospace production documentation (drawings and work orders).

Experience with PDM systems, engineering control, and revision control release processes.

Familiarity with common aerospace hardware such as connectors, relays, and wire types.

Facilitation skills and ability to communicate technical challenges to varied audiences.

Ability to work independently and prioritize tasking to fit business goals.

Complex aerospace system development experience.

Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities.

Preferred Qualifications:

Security clearance.

Experience integrating launch vehicle or aircraft electrical power systems.

Direct hands‑on experience with aircraft electrical system installation and best practices.

Required Skills:

Siemens Capital / Mentor Graphics.

Familiarity with 3‑D CAD.

MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Experience as a CAD parts librarian (preferred: Mentor Graphics).

Preferred Skills:

3‑D CAD modeling experience – NX, CATIA, or Solidworks.

Familiarity with configuration management systems – Jira (preferred).

Education & Experience

Level I (0–2 years): Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Level II (2–5 years): Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Sr Level (5–10 years): Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Travel as needed (estimated Paid maternity and parental leave.

50% company match on 401(k) up to $11,500.

May involve the operation of company vehicles as part of assigned duties.
