Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Reviews work orders and parts from Department Supervisor and Lead Person.

  • Works from blueprints. Performs weld techniques per required material and weldment.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in mig welding.

  • Sets-up weld equipment per material type listed on work order. Welds part per work order and blueprints.

  • Positions and clamps together components of fabricated metal products preparatory to welding.

  • Use basic power hand tools and grinders to clean up weld work e.g., de-burring, clean weld splatter.

  • Completes the Weld Quality Check list as required.

  • Supports the company's lean initiatives and assists in Lean projects as required.

  • Follows all safety practices and rules. Maintains clean and safe working environment in line with company policies.

  • Supports other departments or completes other duties, as necessary.



Qualifications and Required Skills:

  • A welding certification or on job experience is strongly recommended.

  • Previous experience with mig weld procedures is required.

  • Previous experience with handheld grinders, drills, hammer, plasma cutting torch, blaster equipment and drill press is strongly desired.

  • Previous application of lean manufacturing and structured problem-solving tools is a plus.

  • Good understanding of blueprint reading.

  • Must be able to read squares and measuring tapes.

  • Good verbal and written communication skills.

  • Lifts frequently (50% of normal workday) material weighing 5 - 25 lbs. occasionally lifts (15% of normal workday) material weighing 25 - 60 lbs. lifting generally from floor level to waist level.

  • Must reach, stoop, kneel and crouch.

  • Be able to read part numbers and directions provided on a worksheet.

  • Works within a team cell environment

  • Must be reliable and willing to work overtime when required.




Job Requirements:

  • Attention to Detail: Welders need to make clean lines and cuts when welding. Paying attention to the job at hand is necessary.

  • Dexterity: MIG welders work with their hands and need to be steady during the welding process.

  • Strength: MIG welders often need to lift or hold heavy pieces of metal in place while welding.

  • Stamina: MIG welders can expect long hours on their feet, often in hot conditions.

  • Technical Skills: Welding equipment requires technical knowhow, as does reading blueprints and understanding how the final product should look.

  • Troubleshooting Skills: Welders should see flaws in welds or structural imperfections in the metal.

  • Good Vision: Keeping a steady eye on the weld as it takes form requires good vision.

  • Other duties may be assigned.
