This position requires on-site presence in Decatur, GA, following a hybrid work model.

Job Summary
Responsible for product development from concept through production, which includes new product, sustaining and resolution of field problems. Leads electro‑mechanical product design and/or redesign, part assembly and detailed part drawings. Leads prototyping, testing, and assembly of samples. Leads various product design and development projects. Must be able to collaborate with all cross‑functional members of the design team.

Key Responsibilities

Involved in various aspects of the design process including, but not limited to, the development of part geometry, assembly design and drawing generation. Design work varies from new product development to product enhancements and cost reduction activities. Develops and distributes engineering data in the form of engineering change notices, bills of material and parts tracking. (35%)

Interacts with the manufacturing facilities to resolve part or assembly issues, deviation requests and bill of material errors. (15%)

Attends team meetings using the product delivery system (stage gate product development) for each major product. (10%)

Initiates and assists with the development of concepts for new products from project charters, and specification matrix provided by the product manager and other avenues such as reviewing competitor’s samples and documentation, and free‑design techniques. These concepts must be agreeable with standard manufacturing methods utilized in the appropriate manufacturing facility. (15%)

Assist the team with any/all process improvement activities and related research. (10%)

Supports ABS/Lean transformation as a Kaizen team participant and assists with the completion of post‑Kaizen activity/assignments as appropriate. (5%)

Submits test requests and interacts with the testing group as necessary. Submits prototyping requests and interacts with the model shop for the production of prototypes and assembly of samples. Reviews functional specifications, project charters and competitor samples. (10%)

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor of Engineering

0 to 2 years of applicable experience required

Proficient use of 3D CAD, MS Office, etc.

Proficient in lean & six sigma methodology and practices such as standard work, time study, cause & effect, 5WHY analysis and other tools of DMAIC.

The ability to communicate verbally, in written form and through sketches, and engineering drawings.

Works well in cross‑functional team environments.

Possess understanding of manufacturing methods such as stamping, drawing, casting, extruding of metals and plastics.

Leadership, to influence and enlist the cooperation of other team members to work towards the goal of completing and implementing new product development on time, and in budget.

Knowledge of UL and UL testing processes very helpful.

Understand and adhere to the appropriate established industry and safety standards.

Preferred Requirements

Mechanical Engineering or relevant discipline

Commercial lighting experience preferred

Travel Requirements

up to 20% travel expected in this position (USA and International)

Compensation & Benefits
The range for this position is $66,500.00 to $119,700.00. Placement within this range may vary, depending on the applicant’s experience and geographic location. Acuity offers generous benefits including health care, dental coverage, vision plans, 401(k) benefits, and commissions/incentive compensation depending on the role.
