In this position...
The Core Overhead System Engineer uses our interior systems to develop and maintain Design Rules, Requirements, and Core Foundation documents to ensure the development and production of quality and efficient designs for our customers. The Core team supports the application engineering teams through the development and production of vehicles, taking feedback of issues and efficiencies to further improve global designs.
Responsibilities
What you'll do…
Manage and author generic engineering core documents with absolute focus on delivery of robust design templates and failure mode avoidance by applying engineering disciplines including DFMEA, PFMEA, Control Plans, SCCAF, PDP and RQT specifications
Champion and develop global design standards and solutions
Interface with cross-functional teams, attribute teams, purchasing, designers, and R&A to assist in the development of a commodity strategy that delivers the highest quality at the lowest total cost
Provide technical guidance and coaching to program engineers at the pre-launch, validation, and launch phases of their program
Benchmark best practices and processes (internal and external) to maximize product effectiveness. Visiting suppliers and our manufacturing sites around the world to both learn and teach.
Develop and foster working relationships with suppliers to develop new technologies, assess current capabilities to support program fits, and drive continuous process improvement
Support current model program teams to drive quality improvements by performing root cause analysis, identifying solutions and prevent recurrence
Champion projects to develop and integrate new technologies into Ford’s cockpit of the future
Apply root cause analysis for part design and/or manufacturing related issues
Lead and support design reviews of global programs to make sure design standards and robustness are applied into the seamless passenger airbag system for zero failure
Make sure suppliers process ensures Ford quality to highest standards with the highest efficiency possible
Qualifications
You'll have...
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related degree.
4+ years of headliner experience including design, development, and production phases
2+ years of experience in the use of Design Tools (3DX/CATIA/Teamcenter/Digital Buck/GD&T/RSS Studies/DFMEA).
The Core Engineer is responsible for analyzing product release CAD and BOM structures, including assembly positioning and mass attribute analysis. This role also includes facilitating supplier data integration and developing CAD studies to support and drive design improvements.

This position is a salary grade 6 - 7 and ranges from $72,480 - 141,360.
Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility and competitive market value.
