Design Release Engineer, Infotainment Calibration

Work Arrangement:
This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Warren, MI or Milford, MI three times per week (at minimum).

The Role
The Infotainment Calibration Design Release Engineer plays a key role in leading the configuration of high technology infotainment software so that a core software set can provide the desired infotainment features across various vehicle brands, models, and global sales regions. The individual in this role develops and releases calibration packages and may lead other personnel who assist in the development and release these packages. This Engineer will coordinate closely with vehicle system engineers and vehicle program teams to successfully manage change and release calibrations to vehicle development plan milestones.

What You’ll Do

Leads the development, implementation, and release of software calibrations for cutting edge automotive infotainment features and functions

Creates and communicates calibration development and release plans

Leads the execution of the calibration development and release plans

Defines, creates, and generates calibration files that are compliant with the calibration releasing system and cybersecurity procedures

Issues Engineering Change Request work orders to release calibration files

Leads execution of work orders with cross functional engineering departments, vehicle program teams, and vehicle assembly plants

Provides leadership, coaching, and technical direction to personnel in global regions outside North America who release calibration files

Reports to Leadership on the status and issues pertaining to releasing calibrations

May provide leadership, coaching, and technical direction to other engineers who assist with developing and releasing the calibration files

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering

Minimum of 2 years of automotive electrical/electronics/software engineering experience

High level analytical ability to solve problems that are unusual and complex

High level analytical ability to manage data sets that are large and complexResults driven individual with high levels of initiative, proactivity, and attention to detail

High level of oral and written communication skills

Exhibits appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with Global business partners to meet mutual goals

In-depth knowledge of requirements engineering processes (FMEA, DFSS)

In-depth knowledge of verification and validation processes (component-, bench-, vehicle-level)

Working knowledge of vehicle serial data communications and interface tools (e.g. CAN, GMLAN, LIN, ETHERNET, VSpy, DPS Tool)

Understanding of hardware design and failure modes

Understanding of vehicle safety requirements (e.g. FMVSS, etc.)

Demonstrated technical and professional skills in job-related area

Demonstrates creativity and initiative as well as a high level of independent judgment

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

2+ years of experience working with current automotive infotainment systems including Navigation, GPS, Bluetooth, USB, Speech Recognition, Microphones, Hands‑free Processing and Audio Management, Displays and HMI, Camera and Video Management, AM/FM/XM Receivers/Tuners, Internet Apps, incl. Internet Radio, Cyber Security, Media Players, Text to Speech, System and Power Management, Phone, Data Carrier, and Data Downloads

Experience with the GM eMerge Change Management Work Order System

Experience with Jira

Experience with CalBOM and/or Cal Portal tools

Experience with Soft Part Release System
