Thin-Film Coating Process Development Engineer

A day in the life
  • Serve as the process subject-matter expert for FGR Coating and Mixing operations, enabling the team to meet safety and departmental performance targets.
  • Lead root-cause investigations and collaborate with the team to eliminate recurring issues.
  • Analyze and refine methods, workflows, and equipment using time studies, trend analyses, correlations, and histograms to uncover improvements in quality, availability, and cost.
  • Identify and champion both grassroots fixes and technology-driven solutions.
  • Own projects end-to-end: concept and design, cost and safety approvals, implementation, and validation.
  • Partner cross-functionally with engineering peers, production, vendors, and leadership to execute larger initiatives.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation (procedures, work instructions, flowcharts, forms, P&IDs, and reports).
  • Lead all new product and formulation introductions across coating and mixing lines, ensuring smooth scale-up and qualification.
  • Train operators and colleagues on new equipment and processes to secure stable performance.
What you bring Required
  • BS in an engineering discipline.
  • 5+ years of continuous improvement experience in manufacturing.
  • Advanced MS Excel skills and/or other data analysis tools.
  • Flexibility to support a 24/7 manufacturing environment when deadlines require.
Preferred
  • Background in thin film or paper web coating, or experience with high‑speed rotating equipment.
  • Experience with chemical mixing/blending operations.
  • Familiarity with OSHA, EPA, HAZWOPER, and ISO 14001.
  • Working knowledge of SPC.
