Job Title
Distribution Engineer (6‑month contract‑to‑direct hire).
Job Description
Seeking an entry‑level Distribution Engineer for field and remote work, connecting new homes and businesses to the energy grid or upgrading existing power distribution connections.
Responsibilities
Conduct field inspections to gather notes, pictures, and measurements for work package creation.
Develop electrical drawings and perform analysis to determine material requirements.
Design power‑distribution upgrade of existing lines and connection to new‑build sites using CAD tools.
Create work packages from field data to develop electrical drawings.
Complete engineering calculations such as structural analysis of poles, cable pulling, electric demand, and transformer sizing.
Use SAP to create a bill of materials for the electrical work package.
Collaborate with utility companies to ensure proper field installation.
Handle multiple projects simultaneously, adjusting field‑work schedules as needed.
Interact daily with supervisors, peers, and customers to present factual information.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering, or an Associate’s Degree with relevant experience.
0‑2 years of experience with a Bachelor’s degree, or 1‑3 years with an Associate’s degree.
Experience working directly with an electric utility or electric‑utility consulting company.
Proficiency in CAD tools such as AutoCAD and Microstation.
Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to make routine recommendations.
Excellent communication skills for client interfacing.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Knowledge of the National Electric Safety Code (NESC).
Familiarity with PoleForeman, SAP, and Microstation.
Fundamentals of Engineer certification.
Ability to lift 20 pounds and walk up to 2 miles on unpaved surfaces.
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Work Environment
Work from home 80‑90% of the time with 10‑20% field inspections in the Hamilton or Hastings, MI area. Fieldwork scheduled flexibly around weather and project demands. 60‑80% of time on engineering and development of design packages, 10% on administrative tasks and customer follow‑up. Professional appearance expected.
Pay and Benefits
