This role provides up to 16 weeks of summer internship in a Postmedia newsroom located in one of the following:
National Post
Financial Post
Vancouver Sun
Edmonton Journal
Calgary Herald
Regina Leader Post
Saskatoon Star Phoenix
Montreal Gazette
Ottawa Citizen
London Free Press
Windsor Star
Halifax Chronicle Herald.
Interns may be assigned based on location and a mutual agreement may allow other newsroom assignments. Weekend and statutory holiday work may apply.
What You’ll Do
Develop content to engage audiences across web and mobile platforms.
Generate story ideas daily and pivot to newsroom priorities as needed.
Use social media and digital tools to uncover breaking news and real‑time reader interests.
Build sources to break stories and help set the news agenda.
Collaborate with digital teams to create interactive content: text, photo, video, and other multimedia.
Compensation
Employment offers based on qualifications, experience, responsibilities, location, and applicable Collective Agreements.
Starting salary: $17.60 per hour to $35.00 per hour.
Qualifications
Graduating journalism student or recent graduate; related field acceptable.
Experience in newsroom work is an asset.
Flexible to work in breaking news, features, short form, and non‑traditional formats.
Desire to learn and collaborate with top journalists.
Curiosity and a talent for explanatory journalism.
Ability to convey meaning concisely.
Experience with video, podcast, and other digital tools is an asset.
Valid driver’s license and personal vehicle access is an asset.
