Partner with a leading energy provider in the Upper Midwest to design, analyze, and develop transmission line projects, supporting cross‑functional teams and ensuring safe, efficient transmission system performance.

Job Description
As the Transmission Line Design Engineer, you will oversee engineering design, project management, and technical support for transmission line projects. Your duties include developing design standards, supporting permitting and land rights coordination, and ensuring projects meet performance, quality, and safety requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Perform engineering analysis and design for transmission line projects to ensure safe, reliable, and cost‑efficient solutions.

Provide technical support to internal engineering teams, land rights and permitting staff, field technicians, and operations personnel.

Lead and support cross‑functional groups to develop and update internal design standards and equipment specifications.

Manage small‑scale transmission projects, ensuring alignment with financial, functional, and schedule requirements.

Prepare project design drawings, documentation, and engineering calculations.

Ensure designs meet strength, loading, and clearance requirements in compliance with applicable standards.

Participate in regional or national working groups to maintain industry knowledge and contribute to industry‑wide initiatives.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.

Electrical or Mechanical Engineering degrees considered with 4+ years of transmission line design experience.

4+ years of engineering or science‑related experience within the utility or a related industry.

Fundamentals of Engineering (F.E.) / E.I.T. certification.

Experience with transmission line construction practices.

Proficiency with PLS‑CADD and MFAD.

Understanding of the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC).

Strong verbal and written communication abilities.

Effective problem‑solving skills and the ability to make informed engineering recommendations.

Ability to work effectively in team environments.

Project management capabilities.

Preferred Qualifications

7+ years of transmission line design engineering experience.

Demonstrated experience with transmission lines operating at 69 kV and 115 kV, including: route selection, Public Utilities Commission (PUC) permitting support, land rights coordination, design and vendor approval, construction support, and as‑built documentation.

Experience designing 200+ kV transmission lines.

Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.

Familiarity with utility‑related technologies and tools.
