Primero America’s team is currently looking for a Project Design Manager
This is a unique opportunity to join our talented team and be part of Primero’s growth and success. Primero is an Australian-founded company, established in 2011 and growing consistently in Montreal since 2016. We expanded into Houston in 2022 and Toronto in 2023, strengthening our North American presence. We specialize in the design, procurement, and construction management of mineral processing plants.
As a Project Design Manager, you will be responsible to coordinate all drafting and engineering matters relating to a project, helping to ensure that the multi‑disciplinary teams building the project work together smoothly and that everything is delivered on time and within budget.
The position operates under a hybrid work model, with regular in‑office presence combined with remote work and in‑person meetings with clients. The Project Design Manager reports directly to the Engineering Manager.
Key responsibilities:
Ensure project design personnel comply with established design procedures
Ensure design deliverables meet applicable legislation, standards, and client and third‑party requirements
Ensure the technical integrity and quality of all design outputs
Ensure design deliverables are completed within the approved budgetMaintain and update design progress, including issues, holds, changes, risks, and deliverables registers
Lead and document regular design coordination meetings in accordance with design procedures
Ensure design outputs are optimized for constructability, operability, and maintainability
Provide feedback to the Technical Manager on the effectiveness of quality systems and design team performance
Represent the company and support the development of strong client relationships
Support and contribute to Safety in Design requirements and reporting
Actively contribute to project execution and support the design team as required
What we’re looking for:
10+ years of experience within the mining or resource industry
Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng./PE) in Canada or the United States, or eligible to obtain licensure in the short term
Strong experience in mentoring and people management
Strong understanding of applicable codes and standards
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation
Understanding of project scheduling and its coordination with engineering and project delivery activities
Strong awareness and implementation of HSE practices
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong organizational, leadership, and problem‑solving skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment
Ability to travel occasionally to the United States for work purposes
40 hours per week
