Overview Looking for a Director, Media +Influencer to lead earned media strategy across both traditional and emerging channels. This role is ideal for a media relations professional with 5+ years of experience who has evolved beyond legacy pitching to embrace today’s fragmented, hyper-connected media landscape.
You’ll be responsible for crafting and executing integrated media strategies that include top-tier press, newsletter journalists (e.g., Substack), social-first publishers, influencer-reporters, podcast producers, Reddit mods, and niche community leaders (i.e. Fandom). You understand that “media” now lives across platforms and personalities—and you know how to reach the people who shape conversation across them.
Responsibilities Lead earned media outreach across traditional and modern channels—press, newsletters, podcasts, Reddit, Fandom, and influencer-led news
Develop and source storylines that resonate across verticals, platforms, and audience types
Build and maintain relationships with journalists, creators, podcasters, and moderators; be a part of specific groups/subscribe actively to subreddits, Substack, etc.
Identify and pitch into emerging storytelling formats and distribution methods; consider new ways of reaching those who have influence in creating original content
Collaborate cross-functionally with PR strategy, social, and influencer teams to ensure earned efforts are insight-driven and integrated
Monitor and report on media trends, alternative media platforms, and coverage opportunities
Qualifications 5+ years of earned media experience in an agency, in house or newsroom setting
Proven media placements across national, lifestyle, or niche press—plus experience pitching podcasts, newsletters, or creator-journalists
Strong understanding of alternative media ecosystems: Substack, Reddit, YouTube news, Podcast culture, Fandom, social publishers, etc.
Curious, adaptive, and fluent in how conversations move across media, creators, and communities
Specific interest in technology, the creator economy, the evolution of AI & culture and other categories frequently covered within emerging media.

Compensation In order to comply with equal pay and salary transparency laws in various locations, we believe the target range of base compensation in all locations within the United States for this role is $100K-$150K. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors, including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and location.
