Qualifications
Education: Master’s degree of Library and Information Science from an ALA-approved program.
Experience: Previous experience working in a library providing reference services or research support.
Skills:
Excellent customer service skills, demonstrated in person, over the phone, and online.
Experience with integrated library systems, discovery platforms, and public printing technologies used in academic libraries, with the ability to learn and adapt to new systems as needed.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a contributing team member.
Knowledge of the Library of Congress Classification (Call Number) System.
Demonstrated commitment to civility, equity, and inclusion when interacting with students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
Responsibilities
The Reference Librarian is directly responsible to the Chairperson of the Library.
Provides professional reference and research assistance in person, online, and by telephone.
Supports student and community member learning and faculty instruction through effective use of library programming support, collections management support, and print and online resources.
Maintains civil, respectful, and inclusive interactions with all members of the Triton College community.
Recommend, interpret, evaluate, and use information resources to assist students and patrons with specific assignments and research needs.
Provide research guidance and instruction using the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education.
Support collection development activities and evaluation of library materials, as assigned.
Participate in departmental projects, initiatives, and programming activities.
Perform other duties as assigned in support of Library Services and institutional goals.
