Title: LIBRARIAN
Type: Unit A Collective Bargaining Agreement
Salary: Per Unit A Collective Bargaining Agreement
Reports To: Building Principal
The primary function of a librarian is to foster a creative, flexible environment so that the school library is an essential part of the learning community. The librarian ensures that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information and empowers students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Assumes responsibility for ordering, processing, and maintaining all instructional materials for the library.
Sets up a program to inform students about the use of the school library.
Works with school administrators and teachers to ensure that the library is an integral part of the school’s function.
Assists in the communication and enforcement of federal and state laws and regulations as well as district policies and procedures.
Instructs students and develops curriculum related to research, writing, and library skills.
Works cooperatively with school administration and staff.
Respects students, parents, guardians and community.
Assists parents and students with questions and concerns.
Maintains professional relationships with students, parents and guardians.
Respects and embraces students of diverse backgrounds and experiences.
Performs any other duties relevant to a successful library program and/or as assigned by the principal.
Required Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree or Master's degree from an accredited college or university.
Licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Education.
At least three years of successful teaching/library experience.
ADA & Minimum Qualifications to Perform Essential Job Functions
Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment, lift, carry, push, and pull objects up to 10 pounds occasionally, and stand, crouch, and bend as needed.
Data Conception: Ability to compare and judge characteristics of data, people, or things.
Interpersonal Communication: Ability to speak and signal people to convey or exchange information; give instructions, assignments, or directions.
Language Ability: Ability to read a variety of correspondence, reports, forms, newsletters, schedules, manuals, etc.; prepare correspondence, reports, evaluations, charts, surveys, articles, handbooks, budgets, etc.; speak before groups with poise and confidence.
Intelligence: Ability to apply logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw conclusions, and interpret technical instructions.
Verbal Aptitude: Ability to record and deliver information, explain procedures, follow oral and written instructions; communicate efficiently in technical or professional languages.
Numerical Aptitude: Ability to use mathematical formulas and perform calculations with decimals and percentages; apply algebra and geometry principles.
Form/Spatial Aptitude: Ability to inspect items for proper dimensions.
Motor Coordination: Ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately using office equipment.
Manual Dexterity: Ability to handle office equipment and hand tools with minimal eye/hand/foot coordination.
Interpersonal: Ability to handle people beyond giving and receiving instructions; adaptable under stress and emergency situations.
Physical Communication: Ability to talk and hear, including telephone communication.
Position Type: Full-Time
Salary: $55,395 to $97,700 per year
