Position Purpose
The Librarian Assistant Professor; Assistant Library Director for Collection Services plans, organizes, and supervises the services and activities in the department, including cataloging, metadata, serials, database and electronic resource management, preservation, processing, acquisitions, and collection development. This person also supervises the related staff and manages the successful operation of the department.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Supervises Collection Services librarians and staff to ensure the effective organization of departmental workflows.
Conducts quality control of bibliographic databases, including the integrated library system (Ex Libris/ALMA), the institutional repository, and OCLC databases.
Manages and supervises the day‑to‑day activities of the acquisition department, which includes planning, ordering, licensing, invoicing, receiving, record maintenance, and budgeting for electronic, print, and other resources.
Provides leadership and coordination for developing a holistic collection development strategy to support the school’s teaching and research interests.
Performs collection assessments, reports, and other metrics on the collections.
Works to cultivate collections of special interest and engages in planning, and record maintenance of current Special Collections.
Maintains a current awareness of issues and trends related to all aspects of collection services by participating in professional development activities; develops professional relationships with counterparts in other institutions, both on and off the law school campus. Provides expert advice to the library on information resources.
Participates in reference and instructional services as appropriate.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
Required Qualifications
A Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) or equivalent from an accredited institution and five (5) years of relevant experience, particularly in acquisitions and collection strategy.
Preferred Qualifications
J.D. from an accredited institution.
Experience in a law library.
Candidates must also have excellent organizational and interpersonal skills; a strong service philosophy; and the ability to work in a fast‑paced environment with people from varied backgrounds.
