The new University of Georgia Schoolof Medicinein Athens, GA is seeking an experienced and innovative Medical Education & Instruction Librarian to join our dynamic team of medical education professionals and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of medical education. In this vital role, you will collaborate with faculty, staff, and leadership to empower students, residents and faculty with evidence-based information skills that enhance patient care and advance medical education excellence.
Position Summary
The Medical Education &Instruction Librarian supports the educational mission of the University of Georgia School of Medicine (UGA SOM). This full-time, non-tenure track faculty position focuses on developing, delivering, and evaluating quality health information resources and instruction to enhance the learning and research needs of faculty and medical students.
The Medical Education & Instruction Librarian supports the School of Medicine’s mission to educate excellent physicians whiledemonstratingthe core values of curiosity, teamwork, and commitment to excellence. Theyaccomplishthis through innovative information services and a welcoming library environment that fosters lifelong learning and the development of Georgia’s healthcare workforce.
Key Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include providing information services for UGA SOM students throughout their four-year medical school degree. Primary duties involve instruction, research support, and information services to faculty, staff, and medical students, with a focus on information literacy and evidence-based practice. The role includes collaborating with faculty on curriculum integration, supporting scholarly activities, managing library resources, and delivering consultations and instruction that support education, research, and patient care. The Medical Education & Instruction Librarian is expected to allocate their time across all four years (pre-clerkship and clerkship years) of medical education.
As a member of the School of Medicine faculty, the Medical Education & Instruction Librarian reports to the Director of the UGA School of Medicine Library and works closely with faculty from the UGA Libraries. In this role, the librarian collaborates with Schoolof Medicine faculty to integrate library instruction and evidence-based research skills into courses and clinical training programs.
The position is a non-tenure track faculty appointment at the rank of Librarian II, Librarian III, or Librarian IV commensurate with experience.
