Business Development Manager (BDM)
The Business Development Manager (BDM) plays a key role in driving growth for ATS Specialized and ATS Heavy Haul by identifying, developing, and securing new business while managing and expanding existing customer relationships. This role is responsible for generating new opportunities through both organic outreach and engagement with inactive or existing customers.

The BDM works collaboratively with Customer Service, Planning, Operations, and Pricing teams to ensure customer expectations are met while aligning with ATS asset fleet needs. This position may be assigned to a specific region, industry, or customer segment on either a temporary or ongoing basis and requires a consultative, strategic approach to sales and relationship management.

What You'll Do

Develop and execute strategic sales plans to achieve department and company growth goals.

Identify, solicit, and close new Specialized and Heavy Haul business opportunities.

Manage and grow existing customer accounts while meeting new customer generation targets.

Use a consultative sales approach to build long‑term customer relationships and clearly articulate ATS's value proposition.

Collaborate closely with Planning and Operations to balance customer commitments, service expectations, and fleet utilization.

Negotiate pricing and shipment terms; accurately quote rates and record all contractual details.

Partner with Customer Service to onboard new customers and ensure a smooth, positive experience.

Work with leadership and the Pricing team on requests for proposals (RFPs) and competitive bid submissions.

Generate and qualify leads for ATS Specialized while sharing opportunities with other ATS business units as appropriate.

Communicate clearly and professionally—listening actively, responding effectively to concerns, and writing clearly and informatively.

Foster strong relationships with internal partners and contribute to a positive, collaborative team environment.

Demonstrate ATS's Mission, Vision, and Values through consistent actions and decision-making.

Align behaviors, performance, and recommendations with ATS's All-Employee Competencies and culture.

Work outside of normal business hours when needed; travel occasionally.Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

What You'll Need to Succeed

Two- or four-year degree in Business, Communications, or a related field preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

Two or more years of experience in Specialized or Heavy Haul transportation preferred.

Solid understanding of sales, marketing, and customer service principles.

Strong entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to self‑direct and take initiative.

Proven problem‑solving and analytical skills with a results‑ and metrics‑driven focus.

Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast‑paced environment.

Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.

Ability to work effectively with diverse individuals and cultures.

Willingness and ability to travel up to 10% of the time.

Compensation & Benefits

Total cash compensation range of this position is $100,000 to $130,000 which includes a base salary range that starts at $70,000 plus first‑year training incentive of $25,000. Base salary offered is determined by relevant experience, education, certifications, and geographic location as compared to others doing substantially similar work. In addition to the base salary, employees may be eligible for performance‑based incentives, which can vary depending on individual and/or company performance.
