Data Analysis and Visualization Librarian
This position is located in Newark, DE and reports to the Head of the Research Data and Design Commons. The librarian will provide expert consultation, instruction, and outreach for research data analysis, visualization, and management, supervise a graduate student statistical specialist, and lead the development of the Data Analysis and Visualization Lab.

Responsibilities

Provide expert consultations and deliver training sessions on research data analysis and visualization topics to guide university researchers (e.g. analytical and computational methods, visualization design best practices, software and tools, etc.).

Provide strategic oversight for the Data Analysis and Visualization Lab, continually assess campus need and recommend changes to software and hardware configurations, and coordinate with IT staff to maintain Lab infrastructure.

Support researchers with finding and preparing datasets for analysis, collaborating with other library staff to assemble datasets as needed.

Maintain and continually update a curated catalog of analysis and visualization resources that support best practices in data management.

Advocate for the ethical use of research data, including topics of academic misconduct, societal impacts, and AI applications.

Identify opportunities to develop and implement new services that advance the mission of the Research Data and Design Commons.

Develop outreach pathways with faculty departments and UD groups focusing on data-driven research, and participate in relevant committees and campus initiatives.

Supervise one graduate student statistical specialist and provide mentoring and support for growth and professional development.

Work closely with RDDC colleagues to maintain accurate and engaging web resources, manage the department’s online presence, and develop outreach strategies to increase awareness and usage of services.

Collaborate with liaison librarians, IT staff, and the Research Office to support campus-wide data initiatives.

Provide guidance and support to units involved in research and data governance.

Stay informed on emerging trends in data management, open science, and scholarly communication, as well as evolving grant requirements for research data.

Qualifications

Master's degree in Library Science or an advanced degree in a relevant discipline and a minimum of 3 years of professional experience.

Demonstrated expertise in data visualization, analysis, preparation, and management.

Experience in a research programming language such as R or Python.

Familiarity with technical environments or analytics labs.

Experience with a variety of qualitative and quantitative analytical methods.

Familiarity with data sharing issues such as FAIR principles, data ethics, funder requirements, and intellectual property as applicable.

Ability to clearly explain and teach complex ideas, engaging with diverse audiences through multiple instructional formats and settings.

Strong communication, project management, and collaboration skills.

Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment where responsibilities may shift based on organizational needs.

Commitment to fostering a diverse educational environment and workplace and ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student population.

Preferred

Working knowledge of NVivo, Stata, and Matlab software.

Experience supporting researchers with complex computational tools and ideas.

Experience running or supporting a computer lab or digital scholarship center.

Previous supervisory experience.
