Job Summary
The Physical Therapist 2 (Per Diem) is a journey-level clinician who provides high-quality, evidence-based physical therapy services within the JV Rehabilitation Hospital. Reporting to the Director of Therapy, this role delivers skilled evaluation and treatment for patients with a wide range of rehabilitation needs. The PT 2 brings at least two years of licensed clinical experience across multiple care settings, demonstrating strong clinical judgment, autonomy, and adaptability in a fast-paced interdisciplinary environment.

California Licensed Physical Therapist
American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS), or UC Davis Health CPR
Minimum education is satisfied through the attainment of the required licensure/certification
2 or more years of recent clinical experience in the field of Physical Therapy
1 year of experience working with adults
Experience with documentation in Electronic Medical Records
Must be able to perform all responsibilities of a licensed Physical Therapist as required and assigned by Joint Venture Rehabilitation Hospital
Must see well enough to observe patient reactions and read relevant monitors, relevant device settings, and relevant written information such as the patient medical record
Written and oral communication skills to clearly and concisely provide information, explanations, and instructions to, and to elicit information from others with varying levels of ability to understand, including individuals who are ill or distressed, or who may not speak English
Interpersonal skills to establish and maintain a friendly, welcoming environment for clinics'/department's customers; to demonstrate an interested, understanding, compassionate manner; to maintain a courteous and calm demeanor; and to use a proactive approach to negotiate with and persuade others to take required action
Ability to maintain composure, efficiency, and a positive, customer-service oriented manner during periods of peak workload, with frequent interruptions, under tight deadlines, and when interacting with challenging customers who may be ill, angry, or emotionally distressed
Problem-solving skills to independently recognize and define a problem; identify the resources available to help solve the problem; create and implement viable solutions; and follow through to ensure the problem is resolved to the satisfaction of all parties
Decision-making skills to independently exercise delegated authority to take action, and to recognize when it is appropriate to seek assistance from others when limits of delegated authority have been reached.
Ability to exercise discretion to ensure that patient confidentiality is maintained, and a professional, respectful clinic/department environment exists at all times
Must have basic computer skills
Preferred Qualifications
American Physical Therapy Association Credentialed Clinical Instructor Program Level 1
2 years of experience working with an adult population in inpatient rehabilitation, skilled nursing (SNF), acute care, or a long-term acute care hospital
Experience with neurological diagnoses (job or student rotation)
Key Responsibilities
90% - Provide Physical Therapy services to patients of all ages in a variety of clinical settings as assigned by Rehab Hospital
5% - Miscellaneous assignments

The Joint Venture Rehabilitation Hospital provides comprehensive inpatient rehabilitation services designed to help patients regain their highest level of functional independence. Located on the Sacramento medical center campus, the 52-bed hospital features advanced rehabilitation amenities and specialized adaptive environments where patients can safely practice activities of daily living.
The hospital includes a dedicated 12-bed Brain Injury Unit and four private bariatric rooms, allowing for highly specialized, patient-centered rehabilitation care. Through an interdisciplinary approach, the team delivers evidence-based therapies that support recovery from complex medical conditions, neurological injuries, and functional impairments.

Work Environment

Must be able to work in the Acute Care and Inpatient Rehabilitation settings, or any other UCDH site as needed.
Must possess sufficient mobility to traverse the distances required to serve patients throughout the institution.
