If you leave your computer and return later, you may time out.*REMINDER: Current DCSD employees must apply through their district log-on, this application is for external candidates only!*## **Job Posting Title:**Library Assistant## Job Description:Responsible for providing assistance in the overall management of the Library Media Center (LMC), including but not limited to: promotion of literacy, supervision and instruction; oversight of the library collection, equipment, and library management system; providing assistance to students and staff using and working in the LMC; and developing and promoting community relations. Must complete DCSD required training for new library staff ESSENTIAL ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS: - Mostly clean and comfortable; some noise ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: - Ability to bend and lift up to 40 lbs - Frequent sitting & standing## Position Specific Information (if Applicable):## Responsibilities:Organize and reshelve returned itemsManage loans between DCSD school libraries (ILL loans)Maintain and repair library materialsManage and catalog materials using resource management software (Destiny)Follow the DCSD media policy and board policies pertaining to the libraryAssist students and staff when using print and/or DCSD digital resourcesPerform routine tasks such as answering phone calls, maintain a clean and organized library environment, and other necessary tasksHelp plan and participate in special library/literacy events (district-wide events and school specific events)Assist and perform necessary record-keeping for all library resources, including a full inventory of all resources no less than every two yearsAssist in the training, scheduling, and management of student assistants/aides and community volunteers in the libraryPerform other library related duties as assigned or requestedAssist with the supervision, management, instruction, and activities in the Library Media CenterAttend District trainings pertaining to the library: Destiny, databases and digital resources, collection development, weeding, purchasing, etc.Loan library materials such as books, textbooks, and other resources to students, staff, and other DCSD school patronsProcess returned materials such as books, textbooks, and other resources## Certifications:## Education:High School or Equivalent (Required)## Skills:Ability to use Google Suite and Microsoft Office programs, Attention to detail, Basic library management knowledge preferred (Destiny and Dewey Decimal System), Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with all stakeholders to support positive outcomes, Effective oral and written communication skills, Enjoys reading and willing to read, Maintains a generally positive attitude, Must feel comfortable reading aloud to students, Observes all District policies and procedures, Strong customer service skills, Strong organizational and time management skills, Verbal and written communication skills in English and a demonstrated ability to read and comprehend written/graphic and oral instructions## Position Type:Regular## Primary Location:Chaparral High School## One Year Only (Yes or No):No## Scheduled Hours Per Week:40## FTE:1.00## Approx Scheduled Days Per Year:185 Work Days* *(260 days indicates a year-round position.
