JOB SUMMARY

The Library Associate provides paraprofessional support to professional library staff through the performance of varied duties and tasks. Performs professional level duties requiring a thorough knowledge of library procedures, organization, and operations. Must exercise judgement and initiative to perform duties; must be able to work independently and as part of a team. Reports to the Library Director or his/her designee.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED/GIVEN

Reports to the Library Director or his/her designee. Supervisor provides additional, specific instruction for new, difficult or unusual assignments, including suggested work methods. Work does not normally include any supervisory responsibility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Manages service stations throughout the library as assigned; performs duties with limited supervision.

Assists librarians with collection management, including cataloging, processing, mending, weeding, and book displays.

Provides paraprofessional support to librarians as needed to facilitate library programs for all age groups.

Provides direct service to library patrons, including 1st level reader’s advisory, technology and e-resource assistance.

Operates and assists patrons with standard library equipment, including computers, photocopiers, scanners, printers, etc.

Responds to routine patron inquiries on the telephone, in person, and via email; refers non-routine inquiries to subject experts.

Charges/discharges library materials using the Workflows Integrated Library System; verifies, sorts, and shelves library materials.

Processes new library card registrations; reserves books for patrons, notifying them when books arrive.

Maintains confidentiality of patron records; routinely exercises discretion and good judgement.

Runs reports for overdue materials and hold alerts; rectifies all reports and retrieves all materials.

Processes overdue notices; receives payments for fines and fees.

Inspects library materials for damage and forwards to appropriate department for further evaluation and resolution.

May assist with library opening and closing procedures.

Performs other related work as required.

Qualifications
EDUCATION, TRAINING, LICENSES & EXPERIENCE

High school diploma and GED. Associates or Bachelor’s degree highly desirable. Minimum of one year previous library experience; knowledge of library classification systems, procedures, and practices; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

Knowledge of common library e-resources, mobile devices, and current library technology. Strong computer skills required; experience using SirsiDynex WorkFlows or other integrated library system preferred. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. Ability to multi‑task while maintaining attention to detail; experience working independently and as part of a team.

Salary Notes
Posted hourly rate is FY'26. Effective FY'27 (July 1, 2026) the pay rate is $21.60 per hour.
