Overview Fort Bend County Library Clerk II – Fulshear Library Branch. The role serves as a first point of service for patrons entering the building or calling the library for assistance, with duties including supporting patrons and referring to other departments as needed. The position requires evening and weekend hours and may involve emergency situations and handling irate patrons.
Responsibilities Serve as the first point of service for patrons entering the building or calling the library for assistance; refer to other departments as necessary. May encounter irate patrons or handle emergency situations.
Assist with training and supervision of part-time library clerks. Serve as In-Charge staff in the absence of Clerk III.
Charge/discharge library materials using an integrated library system, including Interlibrary loans, patron holds and Partnership library reserves.
Routinely use software applications, shelving classifications, internet, email, and spreadsheets to complete daily tasks; utilize RFID; convert collections as necessary.
Input and maintain patron data in automated circulation system; maintain patron records; issue library cards; follow Patron Confidentiality Policy.
Assist patrons paying for overdue fines and/or lost materials; handle cash, cash register, credit cards and equipment; count, reconcile and balance accounts; prepare daily deposits and monthly reports.
Reroute circulation materials to other branches; load/unload bins weighing up to 25 lbs; receive, sort and process new, existing and/or donated delivery items.
Push loaded book trucks, search shelves for missing or requested items, shelve books and other library materials, and prepare items for the Hold Shelf.
Receive/check in new periodicals, journals and newspapers; process and maintain the collections; weed older or damaged materials.
Attend and participate in staff meetings, Staff Development Day, committee meetings and training sessions.
Performs other duties as assigned.
May perform one or more of the following: order supplies; process, mend and clean books and/or AV items; order and receive library materials/check invoices; create records, change holdings using an automated system; process mail for the library system; perform database maintenance.
Participate in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.
Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma/GED; Some college preferred.
Two years job related experience.
Strong computer skills; proficient with Internet, email and Microsoft Office products.
Communication skills and the ability to work well with a diverse public and staff.
Ability to learn library software applications and shelving classifications.
Ability to interpret policy and problem-solve, and work with frequent interruptions.
Position requires evening and weekend hours.
Starting Salary Range $15.30 - $21.47 hourly based on qualifications
