Library Media Specialist
Position Purpose
Oradell Public School, an 800 student elementary school in Bergen County, is seeking a Library Media Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will foster a love for reading and learning among students while promoting an understanding of proper research techniques and the importance of digital literacy. Teaching students in grades K-6, while also collaborating with staff and administration, requires that the individual be passionate and self‑directed, eager to foster an engaging library environment that supports the school's educational goals and enhances student achievement.
Essential Functions
Operate and supervise the media center.
Design lessons and teach students in grades K-6.
Evaluate, select, and requisition appropriate books, aids, and other supplies and equipment, and maintain inventory records.
Serve as a resource to teachers and students in guiding book selection.
Encourage parental involvement in students' education and ensure effective communication with students and parents.
Develop and arrange media center displays.
Assist with the preparation and administration of the media center budget.
Train and supervise media center support employees.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Strong knowledge of library management systems, digital resources, and educational technology tools.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with students, staff, and the community.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
Knowledge of differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
Ability to engage in self‑evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying informed about best practices in library and media services.
Education and Certification/License
Degree in Library Science, Library Media, or a related field from an accredited institution.
Valid state certification or licensure as a school library media specialist.
Experience
Experience with elementary age students.
Experience in a similar position preferred but not required.
Compensation
The position is paid in alignment with the Oradell Education Association salary guide with a range of $58,500 - $108,175.
This full‑time position includes medical and dental benefits.
