Overview

The William E. Laupus Health Sciences Library seeks a Library Information and Research Services Liaison Librarian. The initial primary liaison assignment will be to the Brody School of Medicine and may include other assignments as needed. The position collaborates with teaching and research faculty to integrate library instruction and research expertise into curricula and the culture of assigned programs, develops instructional materials for distance education and on-campus programs, and provides expert search services across health disciplines for faculty, staff, and students within ECU's Health Sciences.

Reports to the Associate Director of Laupus Library. Contingent upon availability of funds.

Job Duties

  • Provide expert reference, searching, and research assistance, including systematic reviews and other expert-level searches.
  • Serve as a liaison to assigned programs in ECU's Health Sciences by building strong professional relationships with faculty and students, assessing information needs, and delivering library services and resources that leverage current technology and best practices.
  • Work occasional shifts at the Service Desk, including some Saturdays.
  • Contribute to library collections and services by reviewing and recommending acquisitions within subject areas of expertise.
  • Develop, market, and deliver instruction sessions on library and information-seeking skills; create instructional materials (e.g., LibGuides, online tutorials, online classes); provide library tours and orientation as needed.
  • Deliver formal library classes on related topics and maintain knowledge of current technologies and trends in distance education; explore and implement new technologies to improve instruction; pursue professional development opportunities.
  • Provide expert assistance for researchers; participate in the Laupus Library Systematic Review Service; educate users on systematic reviews versus other literature searches.
  • Collaborate with the Research Librarian to support tasks such as meeting federal grant requirements, open access publishing, data management, and faculty scholarship support.
  • Engage in User Services and participate in Laupus Library committees and projects as assigned.
  • Maintain professional demeanor and ethics; perform other duties as assigned.
  • Report to the Associate Director; duties contingent on funding.

Minimum Education/Experience

ALA-accredited master’s degree in library or information science, or international equivalent. New graduates will be considered; degree must have been earned prior to submitting application.

License or Certification

None

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

  • Experience in an academic or health sciences library or understanding of librarian roles in health sciences.
  • Participation in teams conducting systematic reviews, practice guidelines, evidence synthesis, and similar tasks.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Adaptability to a changing field; strong interpersonal and customer service orientation.
  • Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, time management, and project leadership abilities.
  • Comfort with new technologies and collaborating in team processes; ability to maintain professionalism in challenging situations.
  • Willingness to lead projects and committees; quick learner in a fast-paced environment.
  • Active collaboration and contribution to group processes.
