Bilingual Children’s Library Associate
Creates a welcoming environment where every customer receives an exceptional experience tailored to their needs. Provides education, training, and guidance while assisting with technology, mobile devices, e-readers, reference questions, and readers’ advisory. Proactively connects customers to services across the library system, including collaboration with on‑call professional staff. Delivers reference and readers’ advisory support for children, caregivers, and educators; maintains and organizes children’s collections with a results‑driven approach; and plans and implements engaging children’s programs.
Location
Martin Regional Library – 2601 S. Garnett Rd. Tulsa, OK. 74129. Located at 26th and Garnett, the Martin Regional Library is a vibrant community center for all of east Tulsa. The library offers bilingual Build A Reader Storytimes, a large Build A Reader Center Play Area, and multiple meeting rooms. Spanish‑speaking staff are available to assist customers at any time the library is open.
Salary and Benefits
Salary: $21.10 /hr. Benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision and Life; PTO and Pension.
Schedule
Monday 9am – 6pm
Tuesday 9am – 6pm
Wednesday 12pm – 9pm
Thursday 9am – 6pm
Friday 9am – 6pm
Rotating Saturday 8am – 5pm
Sunday 1pm – 5pm
Additional Responsibilities
Works at public service desks and rotates throughout zones, helping customers by providing instructional training and problem solving at the point of need; responding to customers' questions, conducting research and providing answers to reference questions.
Presents programs and prepares displays for children and caregivers.
Maintains and operates AV equipment, computers, office machines, and other library hardware and software.
Serves as outreach contact and conducts community outreach, which may include services to educational and professional institutions, community organizations and after‑school programs.
Helps develop and maintain the children’s collection at this library; including recommending materials for purchase.
Assists with physical maintenance of the collection; sorts and shelves materials, shelf reads, and moves materials as necessary.
Develops and maintains story hour resources as well as assists with the training of new employees in children’s programming, procedures and techniques.
Plans and implements the location’s participation in system‑wide special programs such as the Summer Reading Program and Books to Treasure.
May serve as Person in Charge of the location as needed; directing tasks of staff and volunteers.
Actively supports TCCL’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusion efforts, and the Library’s Be All In culture.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree required.
Bilingual English – Spanish required.
No previous experience required; library, retail, or customer service experience preferred.
Physical and Environmental Conditions
The job occasionally requires stooping or bending. Occasional light lifting, such as three or four reams of paper, four to five books, or other materials (up to 20 pounds) may be required. There are occasional minor discomforts from exposure to less than optimal temperature and air conditions. The job may involve dealing with modestly unpleasant situations, such as occasional exposure to office chemicals and/or extensive use of video display terminals.
