Position Summary
Summer Institute Library Intern provides essential support to the Framingham High School (FHS) Library staff in collections management and technical services. The intern assists in the day‑to‑day operations of the library, including material processing, archival preservation, and inventory control to ensure a high‑quality, accessible resource environment for the Summer Institute programs.

Technology: Operate and acquire skills in computer software, including Google Workspace, and use instructional technology appropriately to facilitate learning.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Execute daily circulation tasks, including accurate shelving, shelf‑reading for order, and performing routine inventory audits.
Assist with the end‑to‑end processing of new materials and perform basic book repairs to ensure collection longevity.
Support librarians with introductory cataloging tasks and database management to ensure materials are discoverable.
Assist in the handling, organization, and preservation of archival materials according to institutional standards.
Maintain an organized and welcoming library environment through supply management, space tidying, and the creation of engaging thematic displays.
Other Reasonable Duties as Assigned by the Program Director
As directed by the Program Director, the intern may be assigned other related duties to support library operations.
Physical Working Conditions
Mobility & Navigation: Must move frequently throughout school buildings and grounds.
Stationary Tasks: Often remains in a stationary position for administrative tasks such as reporting and data entry.
Technology & Data: Read and input digital and printed data using office productivity machinery.
Manual Dexterity: Frequent use of hands and arms to operate technology and handle instructional or administrative tools.
Physical Strength: Ability to lift at least 20 lbs (e.g., books, supplies).
Sensory Requirements: Must see and hear continuously to ensure student safety.
Working Environment: Operate in a school setting with moderate‑to‑high noise levels; maintain focus amid frequent interruptions.
Crisis Management: Engage with and redirect students who exhibit challenging or aggressive behaviors.
Physical Stamina: Maintain physical strength and agility to manage active behavioral interventions and supervise during periods of emotional dysregulation.
Interaction Level: Frequently sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl to interact with early childhood students at their eye level.
Physical Lifting: Ability to lift and/or move at least 40 lbs (e.g., moving play equipment).
Hygiene & Safety: Direct responsibility for safety and well‑being, including potential exposure to bodily fluids or pathogens associated with early childhood care.

The performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the Framingham School Committee Contract.
Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) Classification
This position is classified as Non‑Exempt (Hourly).
Terms of Employment
Program Duration: This role is for the month of July and early August. Candidates must be available to attend all mandatory summer program orientation and training days held in late June.
Attendance Requirement: Consistent attendance for the full duration of the summer programming is a prerequisite for eligibility and continued employment in this role.
Schedule & Shift Assignments: Flexible scheduling between 8:00 am‑1:00 pm.
Contractual Status: This position is covered under the Framingham School Committee Contract.
Operational Flexibility: The District reserves the right to transfer personnel to different school sites or programs based on student enrollment, specialized needs, and the best interests of the children.
