About the Position
Blackburn College, a unique four-year liberal arts college with a student-managed work program located in Carlinville, IL, seeks applications for a full-time tenure track position in English to teach undergraduate courses in American literature and composition. Additional areas of expertise, such as gender and sexuality studies or digital media, are welcomed and encouraged.
Blackburn College’s small campus offers faculty and staff close collaboration on committees, assessment, and professional development.

Demonstrated excellence in teaching literature and composition courses
Experience working with undergraduate populations with diverse levels of preparation and engagement
The Department of Writing, Literature, and Languages offers small class sizes in upper-division courses and opportunities to mentor, advise, and work closely with students, including as a supervisor in Blackburn’s student managed work program. Successful candidates will also be expected to teach general education literature and composition classes, and potentially courses in their areas of special expertise. The position is a 9‑month contract with compensation dispensed over 12 months; summer teaching is not required.
Position Requirements
Teach 4 courses per semester, based on student need and faculty availability
Advise students (typically after the first year in the position)
Service to the college via committee membership (typically after the first year in the position)
