Ariva operates a
free income tax assistance program
(VITA program), as part of NYC Free Tax Coalition. Ariva is first and foremost a human services organization serving high need, underserved people and communities. It is our core mission to strengthen the financial stability of low-income individuals and families in the Bronx.
Ariva has several seasonal openings (January-April 2026) for VITA Program Tax Preparers. Most of our seasonal staff and volunteers initially have no prior experience in income tax preparation. You must complete our free trainings to become a volunteer IRS-certified tax preparer before volunteering.
This program is concentrated in the South Bronx, with one location in Manhattan.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Review Intake:
Review client's completed IRS paper intake form; ensure all fields are filled out completely and thoroughly. Review and verify client's identification and tax documents.
Prepare Returns:
Utilize IRS approved software (Taxslayer) to prepare clients' Federal and NYS returns for e-filing or paper filing. Be knowledgeable and stay up to date on IRS rules and regulation as they relate to VITA tax preparation.
COMMITMENT
Weekly 4 or 6 hour shift (January-April 2026) in person
SKILLS
Basic Computer Skills
Patience, Good Sense of Humor
Professional Demeanor and Good Work Ethic
Fluency in Spanish is highly desirable as is any prior experience with the VITA program
