Job Summary:
The music teacher is responsible for delivering engaging and differentiated instruction that is aligned to the curriculum and Illinois Learning Standards. The music teacher's goal is to develop in each student an appreciation of music through activities that include singing, listening to music, moving to music, reading music, playing musical instruments, and performances. The music teacher establishes a positive learning environment and commitment to fostering a love of music in students. The music teacher maintains regular communication with parent(s)/guardian(s) with regard to their instructional program and student success. This position is at the fourth and fifth grade level and requires travel between two school sites on a daily basis.

Primary Responsibilities:

Develops lesson plans that demonstrate a knowledge of the important concepts and skills in the area of music, as identified in the district's curriculum.

Introduces a variety of skills as a means of developing in each student an appreciation of music; and

Provides instruction through the implementation of hands‑on activities that involve, but are not limited to, singing, dancing, listening to music, reading music, and playing musical instruments.

Prepares lesson plans that incorporate best practice instructional strategies in music education.

Develops learning outcomes that are rigorous and aligned to the district's curriculum.

Uses a variety of instructional resources and materials in planning engaging, rigorous, and differentiated activities that are structured to advance student musical skills and creativity.

Fosters a love for music and promotes musical development across all grade levels.

Designs a variety of student assessments that are aligned with the learning outcomes, using both formative and summative assessments to monitor students' progress in their skills and understanding of musical concepts; and tailor lessons to accommodate diverse learning needs and abilities, ensuring all students have opportunities to learn.

Promotes positive and supportive relationships with students.

Maximizes the use of instructional time by establishing efficient classroom routines and procedures, guiding instructional groups, and managing classroom transitions.

Manages classroom behavior by communicating clear expectations for student conduct, proactively monitoring student behavior at all times, and responding to student misbehavior in an appropriate and respectful manner.

Enhances the learning environment by arranging the classroom to support instruction and student activities; instructing students in the proper care and use of musical instruments; and utilizing available technology and instructional resources to engage students.

Engages students in critical thinking and reflection; encourages students to make connections, draw conclusions, and formulate arguments; challenges students to explain their thinking; strengthens students' ability to develop their own questions; and engages students in activities and assignments that are intellectually challenging, allowing students to reflect on what they have learned.

Reflects on instructional practices in order to improve teaching and student learning.

Communicates frequently with families providing information about the instruction and learning that is taking place in the classroom; the academic and social‑emotional progress of individual students; and how families can participate in their students' learning.

Contributes positively to the school community by collaborating with colleagues in a professional learning community, participating in staff meetings, and partaking in district/school provided professional development; volunteering to participate in school/district events and projects; and displays a high level of ethics and professionalism in interactions with students, colleagues, administrators, and parents/guardians.

Desired Qualifications:

Current and valid Illinois Professional Educator License with a music endorsement applicable to the grade level assigned.

Ability to establish positive and supportive relationships with students.

Ability to proactively engage students and maintain the pace of a lesson to always keep students on task.

Ability to establish a safe learning environment where students feel comfortable taking risks without fear of judgment.

Exhibits an eagerness to teach music from various cultures, genres, and time periods.

Dedicated to working collaboratively within grade‑level teams as a means of incorporating cross‑curricular projects.

Ability to analyze various forms of data and use the information to make instructional decisions.

Knowledge of learning styles and skill in using standards‑based varied teaching methods to address student learning styles.

Able to work with a diverse student population that come from different linguistic, socioeconomic, and family backgrounds.

Establishes clear, appropriate and open communication with parents and guardians.

Foundational knowledge of Google Classroom applications and the ability to incorporate technology as a means of enhancing instruction.

Salary Range:

Starting salary of $54,344 (Please click the link to view the current salary schedule).

Salary is commensurate with education and experience.

Qualified candidates may be granted up to twenty years of verified full‑time teaching experience for credit on the salary schedule.
