Department Description
The Music Department at the University of San Diego offers a comprehensive Music major with emphases in Performance, Teaching & Learning, Composition, Theory, and History & Culture, as well as a General Music major and a Music minor. The department values personalized mentorship, small class sizes, and diverse ensemble participation.
Job Responsibilities
The USD Music Department invites applicants for a full-time benefits‑based non‑tenure track Teaching Professor with specializations in wind band and string ensemble rehearsal/conducting. The position will collaborate as an associate conductor of USD’s Wind Ensemble and may include coaching of vocal students, music theory, collaborative piano, concert planning, curriculum coordination across sections/levels, and recruitment for string and wind ensembles. Responsibilities also include teaching courses, attending rehearsals and concerts, and holding weekly in‑person office hours.
Desired Qualifications
A DMA or PhD in music education or conducting, and experience teaching these subjects at the university level.
Ability to teach courses, attend rehearsals and concerts in person, and hold weekly in‑person office hours.
Successful completion of a pre‑employment background check.
Provision of official education transcripts for degree verification.
Compensation and Benefits
This is a 9‑month full‑time, benefits‑eligible, non‑tenure‑track appointment at the rank of Teaching Professor, with a monthly salary range of $6,092–$6,275. Candidates with significant college‑level teaching experience may negotiate appointment at the Senior or Distinguished Teaching Professor rank.

Additional Information
The salary range reflects the university’s expectations based on experience, education, and departmental budget. The position will commence in fall 2026.
