Overview Wilbur Wright College, one of the City Colleges of Chicago, seeks part-time Adjunct Faculty to teach Music courses. Adjunct Faculty teach and evaluate students, prepare and revise course syllabi and other educational materials. Part-time Adjunct Faculty will demonstrate success in the classroom by developing and using effective teaching strategies that meet students’ diverse needs and engage students in critical thinking and problem-solving. Part-time Adjunct Faculty contribute to the overall operation of the College, support the mission of the institute, and employ the philosophical commitment of the community college environment.
Essential Duties Creates an effective learning environment that fosters students’ intellectual curiosity and helps students problem-solve using discipline-specific thinking strategies.
Designs courses with clearly articulated learning outcomes that are student-centered and promote students’ active participation in their own learning.
Prepares syllabi that include student learning objectives and student learning outcomes.
Develops and designs an assessment program that provides regular, useful feedback to students in an objective, consistent, and timely manner; evaluates and documents student performance using established methods and criteria and records course grades promptly.
Commits to engaging and improving upon behavioral commitments that foster inclusivity and a sense of belonging among students.
Stays current with innovations and trends in the discipline as they pertain to pedagogy and technology and continuously reflect on and refine their craft.
Demonstrates excellence in teaching and a commitment to integrating new technologies in the learning process.
Fosters a safe environment that respects the diversity of individuals and ideas by modeling respect for all students and conveying confidence in every student’s ability to learn.
Employs a variety of teaching methods to meet students’ varying learning needs, abilities, and interests and to optimize student outcomes.
Teaches in a manner consistent with the philosophy, policies, and guidelines of the college.
Qualifications Masters in Music (including Performance, Jazz, Music Education, Music Therapy, or related disciplines) or Master of Arts/Science with a focus on Music
Teaching experience at the college level preferred
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate persuasively and with tact
Ability to work in a culturally diverse work environment
Experience with a diverse, multilingual student population; commitment to the open access mission of the community college
Disposition toward developing the City Colleges Academic Excellence Pillars
Knowledge of Brightspace or similar Learning Management System preferred
Prior experience with online teaching (via Zoom) and/or online teaching certification preferred
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications

Special Requirements Seeking candidate(s) to teach face-to-face course(s)
Seeking candidates that specialize in instrumental music and can teach applied lessons on one or more instruments: Violin, Clarinet, Trumpet
Must be available and qualified to teach Music 135 (Instrumental Ensembles), which meets Tuesday and Thursday from 2:00 P.M. – 2:45 P.M. during the Fall 2026 semester, with potential for additional teaching opportunities in future semesters.
Salary and Benefits Salary: $800 - $837 - $943 per Contact Hour based on Degree
The rate paid is in accordance with City Colleges approved salary scale
