We are seeking an Elementary Music Teacher for the 2026/2027 school year and beyond to join our team at Miami Whitewater Elementary School.
Job Summary: The Music Teacher will promote the academic and social growth of all students every day and maintain a classroom environment that is positive, focused, and conducive to learning.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Plan and deliver engaging, standards-based music instruction aligned to Ohio Learning Standards and district curriculum.
Design lessons that build sequential musical skills (rhythm, melody, harmony, movement, and performance) while fostering creativity and a love of music.
Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of learners through whole group, small group, and individualized supports (RTI framework).
Adapt instruction and materials to support students with IEPs, 504 Plans, and other intervention plans in collaboration with support staff.
Create a positive, inclusive classroom environment that promotes student engagement, creativity, and respectful participation (PBIS-aligned).
Establish clear expectations for student behavior and maintain an organized, productive learning environment.
Use a variety of formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and inform instruction.
Incorporate movement, instruments, vocal performance, and technology to enhance student learning and engagement.
Provide opportunities for student performance and showcase learning (e.g., concerts, programs, or school events).
Communicate regularly with students, families, and staff regarding student progress and classroom activities.
Collaborate with colleagues to support student success and contribute to a positive school culture.
Maintain accurate records and complete required reports in accordance with district policies and state requirements.
Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and school or district committees as required.
Demonstrate ongoing professional growth and application of current best practices in music education and instructional strategies.
Utilize technology effectively for instruction, communication, and record-keeping.
Perform other tasks/duties as assigned by the building administrator.
Qualifications – To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed above / below are representative of the knowledge, skill and / or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in a music education field.
Successful teaching experience and /or experience working with youth is preferred.
Valid K-12 Music license issued by the Ohio Department of Education
Other Skills and Abilities:
Must have a positive and enthusiastic attitude and the ability to work well with others.
Must be empathetic and have excellent communication (verbal and non-verbal)and teaming skills, and work to create and maintain positive relationships with students, staff, and families.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of student, staff, or sensitive information is non-negotiable.
Ability to perform duties with awareness of district requirements and BOE policies.
Must have excellent organizational and time management skills.
Must be able to provide demonstrated leadership in the execution of communication strategies.
Must be able to work independently.
Pushing the agenda and goals of the school district is imperative.
Political acumen and organizational support is strong focus as well.
