KATU/KUNP Summer News Intern

What You’ll Do
Assist in researching, writing, and producing news stories for broadcast and digital platforms
Work alongside reporters, anchors, producers, and photographers—both in the newsroom and out in the field
Bring fresh story ideas to the table and help shape coverage that matters to our audience
Learn how to shoot video, frame compelling visuals, and understand what makes a story stand out
Gain exposure to control room operations and how live broadcasts come together in real time
What You’ll Gain
Hands‑on experience in modern, multi‑platform journalism
A deeper understanding of how today’s newsrooms operate—from broadcast to digital and social
Opportunities to build a professional portfolio with published or produced work
Mentorship from experienced journalists who know the industry inside and out
Valuable connections to jumpstart your career in media
To be considered, candidates must:
Be at least 18 years of age
Be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program, or a recent graduate
Be at least a sophomore at an accredited college/university
Be eligible to work in the United States
Be available to work on‑site at KATU/KUNP in Portland, OR approximately 15 hours per week for 10 weeks
Be able to start between June 1 – June 19, 2026
Have reliable transportation (housing/relocation is not provided)
Be passionate about local news, storytelling, and community impact
Thrive in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment
