The Air Conditioning Mechanic installs, maintains, inspects, and repairs refrigeration and air conditioning equipment, pneumatic and electronic controls, heating and cooling facilities, and performs general maintenance work on all HVAC equipment.
Essential Functions
Employees must abide by all Joint Commission Requirements, including sensitivity to cultural diversity, patient care, patient rights, ethical treatment, safety and security of physical environments, emergency management, teamwork, respect for others, participation in ongoing education and training, communication, adherence to safety and quality programs, and sustaining compliance with National Patient Safety Goals. Additionally, they must comply with the hospital's policies and procedures, Service Standards, and Code of Conduct.
Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.
Assist other crafts on shutdowns involving heating and cooling, and power supply for refrigerated systems.
Conduct chemical treatment of water in the heating and cooling loop to prevent corrosion and scale formation.
Perform tests to determine water quality in the system.
Execute preventive maintenance on HVAC equipment per correct procedures, recommending changes for improved operating efficiency.
Install new air conditioning units and systems, connect to required services, and test for proper operation.
Install, calibrate, and maintain manual, automatic pneumatic, and electronic controls on all HVAC equipment.
Seek assistance when necessary for complicated electronics or pneumatic controls.
Maintain tools, equipment, and assigned work areas.
Prepare requisitions for supplies or materials required for authorized work per established procedures.
Perform welding, brazing, and soldering on HVAC equipment per recognized and proper procedures.
Repair, maintain, and diagnose problems with centralized air handling units for both electrical and pneumatic controls, refrigerated air conditioning units, walk‑in boxes, cold rooms, and chillers.
Respond to heating or cooling complaints and adjust systems to meet occupant comfort levels.
Test and balance heating, cooling, ventilating, and air conditioning to meet specifications and code requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as possession of required licenses or certifications, is qualifying.
Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Experience: Two (2) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience.
License/Certification:
EPA 608 – HVAC Universal Certificate by the Environmental Protection Agency
or HVAC Freon Certification by the Environmental Protection Agency
Knowledge

Plan, organize, prioritize, work independently, and meet deadlines.
Read and interpret blueprints and sketches.
