WORK OBJECTIVE:
Under the supervision of the Air Terminal Superintendent, supervises and performs work concerned with maintaining appearance and condition of the BNIA terminal.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Assigns daily tasks and oversees the work of the custodial staff. The custodial staff is responsible for the cleanliness of the terminal building, parking garage and all related areas. Tasks include stripping/waxing floors, cleaning bathroom areas (including plunging toilets, urinals and sinks), cleaning airline gate areas, garbage and recycling removal, snow removal, and special deep‑cleaning projects as needed.

Duties also include training, mentoring, supervising the custodial staff, and receiving supplies.

Make minor mechanical repairs to floor equipment.

Produce daily assignment reports and serve as liaison to airport tenants and customers regarding building and operational needs.

Perform other related tasks as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Work any shift on any day, including weekends and holidays.

Ability to work with minimum supervision, understand and follow oral and written directions, and read and understand standard operating procedures and Management directives.

Demonstrated ability to supervise employees on a specific shift.

Deal with occasional stressful situations as may arise.

Interact with custodians, tenants, vendors and customers in a professional manner.

Work outdoors in inclement weather.

Operate custodial equipment (floor scrubbers, buffers, vacuum cleaners) and a computer (Windows and Lotus programs).

Interact with other departments as required and maintain effective working relationships with all employees.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds).

ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work is performed in usual office conditions with rare exposure to disagreeable environmental factors.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High school graduate; some secondary education in building operation or customer service areas desirable.

Minor mechanical and electrical troubleshooting of custodial equipment.

Minimum of five (5) years experience in building maintenance and operations and a minimum of three (3) years experience directly supervising others.

Valid New York State driver’s license.

Computer operations experience.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a SIDA badge/US Customs and Border Protection Seal.
