We recognize that clients are the experts on their own lives, experiences, and beliefs. The Health and Wellness team uses client expertise to guide, encourage, and empower clients as they interact with various health systems. We teach clients how to set up appointments, find specialists, apply for health insurance, request interpretation, and access emotional support services, among many other skills and needs.RESPONSIBILITIES: Health Promotion Interns will assist the Health and Wellness team with a variety of projects and services, such as health education initiatives, support group coordination, Medicaid/New Jersey Family Care follow up, supported health referrals, and developing health resources for IRC NJ clients. Health Promotion Interns will also provide other direct services to health and wellness clients as needed.• Assist the Health and Wellness team in organizing and running regular meetings for clients, such as walk-in hours, health education sessions, and other group activities. • Assist the Health and Wellness team in conducting client outreach and event promotion for ongoing program events. • Research and evaluate skill and research gaps in health, mental health, and related areas for IRC NJ clients.LEARNING OBJECTIVES: 1. Acquire a thorough understanding of refugee and immigrant communities in NJ, with a key focus on physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing. 2. Develop and refine client-centered program planning and management skills and practices. 3. Develop and refine outreach and advocacy skills in the public health arena.REQUIREMENTS: • Education requirements - currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in public health, social work, or related field. • Working Arrangements - available at least 15 hours/week, minimum of 7.5 hours in-person. • Language Skills – fluency in Spanish, Haitian Creole, Arabic, Dari, or Pashto is highly preferred. • Skills Needed – strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively work with diverse populations; excellent organizational and time management skills; experience with data entry and high-quality research and advocacy efforts; - Experience working with refugee and immigrant populations, particularly in the context of health and wellness, is highly desirable**PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS**All International Rescue Committee workers must adhere to the core values and principles outlined in .
