THE POSITION
The Field Investigator at the Department of Agriculture plays an important role in keeping racing activities safe, fair, and well regulated. This position supports licensing, inspections, and on-site investigations that help protect the integrity of the sport. It offers a fast-paced environment with meaningful public service. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on work and clear purpose.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position supports licensing, investigations, and recordkeeping to ensure the proper enforcement of racing regulations. It provides assistance to applicants, officials, and investigators in a wide range of racetrack activities. As a Field Investigator, you will perform the following duties:
License Processing:
Generate licenses, fingerprint applicants, and prepare correspondence for required approvals
Record Management:
Maintain files, track fines and suspensions, and review payrolls for unlicensed employees
Investigation Support:
Assist special investigators with drug testing, searches, interviews, and paddock patrols
Facility Oversight:
Check racing proof, verify status of applicants, and notify judges of required actions
Supply Coordination:
Track and order paddock and office supplies and prepare shipments as needed
Customer Assistance:
Answer telephones, support visitors, and assist with clerical duties throughout the office

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Full-time employment
Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Saturday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, and 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM Sunday, with a 30-minute lunch.
Telework:
You will not have the option to telework in this position.
Salary:
In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
Three years of experience in public contact work, including two years of experience in field investigation or law enforcement work;
or
Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
Additional Requirements:
You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Preferred Qualifications (not required):
Professional experience in regulatory enforcement and compliance.
Experience working with or around horses.
Post Employment Requirement
A Commission Employee License is required for this position or will be obtained once hired.
