Job Description: Sister DoulaOrganization: Black Mamas ATXSalary: $50,000 to $51,500 per annum based on experienceReports To: Doula Program ManagerStatus: Full-Time, Non-ExemptApplication Deadline: May 10, 2026Core Responsibilities & Expectations1. Direct Perinatal SupportPrenatal Guidance: Conduct monthly (minimum of three) structured prenatal visits (in-home or virtual) to establish rapport, provide client resources, support birth and postpartum planning, provide evidence-based education on pregnancy, nutrition, childbirth and other topics in the Black Mamas ATX Curriculum.Continuous Labor Support: Provide 24/7 on-call availability starting at 37 weeks gestation. Offer physical comfort measures, emotional encouragement, and informational support throughout the entire duration of active labor and immediate recovery. Provide continuous presence throughout labor, from the client's request until 1-2 hours following delivery. Offer immediate breastfeeding assistance post-delivery where applicable.Postpartum Continuity: Perform postpartum visits (in-home or virtual) through the first year postpartum to monitor physical recovery, assist with newborn care, client/family adjustment, and provide emotional and physical wellness checks-ins.2. Client Advocacy & AutonomyInformed Decision-Making: Help clients navigate medical choices and ensure their voices are heard within the healthcare system.Hospital Liaison: Act as a professional bridge between the client and medical staff, ensuring the clients voice is centered and that care is provided with dignity and respect.Culturally Congruent Care: Provide trauma-informed care that acknowledges the unique stressors and systemic challenges faced by Black mothers.Community Resource Connection: Connect clients with Black Mamas ATX internal programs and external community resources, especially through the WARMTH (WrapAround Resources for Maternal Transformative Healing) program.3. Administrative & Professional StandardsData Management: Maintain rigorous documentation of all client interactions within the Black Mamas ATX data platform within 72 hours of service.Policy Compliance: Adhere to the BMATX Doula Expectations Policy, including professional conduct, "No-Show" protocols, and timely submission of accountability and communication protocols.Collaboration: Participate in staff meetings, committees, and partnerships while maintaining positive relationships with medical professionals and community agencies. Collaborate with the BMATX team to manage and improve the birth experience of the client and their family.Community Engagement: Facilitate/co-facilitate monthly support groups or community educational workshops as needed, and assist with outreach and recruitment activities including tabling at community events. Remote Work Mastery: Proven ability to remain productive, organized, and communicative in a fully remote environment. Qualifications & RequirementsExperience: Deep commitment to and experience working within the Black community. Lived experience regarding Black maternal health is highly valued.Certification: Full Doula certification from a doula training organization (or demonstrable progress toward completion).Skills: Strong interpersonal communication, conflict resolution in clinical settings, and proficiency with digital record-keeping tools.Logistics: Reliable transportation for home and hospital visits within the Austin 5-county metro area.
