Job Description – 2026-2027 Districtwide Media Specialist (26000069)
Supervise and manage all aspects of the school library program, space, and resources. Serve as an instructional partner by collaborating with teachers to embed information literacy and digital citizenship into the curriculum. Set the tone for creating a campus culture of literacy.

Collaborate with teachers to design engaging learning experiences to integrate digital literacy and information literacy skills into instruction.

Use the TEK’s/SE’s as the basis for instruction as well as using library materials and resources.

Provides and promotes ongoing learning opportunities for students and staff that foster connections that all stakeholders are actively participating and positively engaged, particularly in the areas of integration of information technology and information literacy skills.

Support academic rigor by working closely with teachers to provide opportunities for inquiry that develop research and information skills to ensure students are college ready, workforce ready, and effective life‑long users of information.

Implement emerging technologies to enhance teaching, learning, and resource access and train campus faculty and students in the instructional use of high‑quality databases.

Interact with students to promote positive attitudes toward school library programs and love of reading in a safe, secure environment which is age‑appropriate.

Support reading promotion activities (e.g., events, displays, contests, print & digital publications, etc.…) that encourage self‑selected, voluntary reading and enhance the instructional program.

Serve as a literacy advocate, by using publicity, motivational activities, and exhibits/displays to engage students that promote an atmosphere of becoming lifelong readers.

Encourage a high level of book circulation which includes inter‑library loans to facilitate information access beyond the campus and access to resources and information beyond the instructional day.

Share library resources to the family and learning community.

Encourage and promote parental, student and community involvement in the library program.

Seek community partnerships and grants to enhance media center programs and resources.

Maintain a safe, clean, and accessible media center that promotes a positive learning climate.

Provides a balanced, up‑to‑date collection of high‑quality reading materials that reflect the curriculum and student interests that are age‑appropriate and follow the collection development policies of Dallas ISD.

Conductes yearly library inventory and deselects titles as needed.

Meets Library & Media Services book order deadlines.

Maintain an updated virtual presence on the campus website and/or social media platforms, to provide timely information, ensuring equitable access to databases, services, and programs.

Completes 9‑weeks library report.

Performs all other tasks and duties as assigned related to the library program.

Qualifications

Required master’s degree in library science OR Master’s in another area with School Librarian Certification

Required valid Texas school librarian certification

Required valid Texas teacher certification

Required 2+ years classroom teaching experience as a highly qualified teacher from a public school or a TEA‑accredited campus institution, bilingual skills a plus

Working knowledge of library and information science

Demonstrated ability to instruct and manage students in a varied environment

Demonstrated strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Demonstrated flexibility to cope with the challenges of a rapidly changing world

Demonstrated willingness to remain current with the latest developments in the profession

Salary will be based upon the Board approved RELATED INSTRUCTIONAL salary schedule.
